Observation
Everett Catlin <everettcatlin@...>
I am getting great Battery life out of my Murania. Really happy. I listen two hours between 0430 and 1630 every day and a hour or so during the day. I am retired so I can do this. 73 Everett Catlin N5MZX

After some experiments tonight, it seems the TA7642 is optimized for the AM broadcast band frequencies...Any stations heard on 49 meters were extremely faint...I would recommend the Ozark Patrol for shortwave use...Jim WB2LHP

Simple Murania mod offers improved performance
Jim WB2LHP in MI <jmarco1955@...>
Here is a simple mod that will produce better performance from the very fine Murania radio...It is completely reversible and requires no hacking of the radio...
I live 5 miles from a 50kW AM station which tends to overload the detector in the TA7642 IC...Here's the fix... FLOAT the wiper lug of R3 Place a jumper between the PADS for the R3 wiper and the high side of R3 Lift the leg of R1 that intersects with R2 and R3 Connect a jumper between the floated leg of R1 and the wiper of R3 Done... This allows R3 to control the gain of the detector stage in the TA7642...The audio amp runs wide open...Adjust R3 for the best sounding audio...R3 now acts similar to a regenerative control where there is both volume and gain reaction... This mod comes from my own experimenting and information gleaned off the Internet...Give it a try...I think you'll be pleased with the results... 73 Jim WB2LHP in MI

More Murania Mods
Jim WB2LHP in MI <jmarco1955@...>
Here are some additional mods for the Murania radio...These are easy to do and are completely reversible without hacking the radio...
Reduced audio distortion... In addition to my previous post regarding the change in use of R3, change R2 from 1K to 2.7K... Frequency coverage and dial mapping... Increase L1 from 37 turns to 51 turns...Remove C8...This centers the frequency coverage and makes the dial tracking spot on... Overall Performance... The audio is now crystal clear...Tuning is sharper...The change to L1 may not be necessary or important to you...It is offered as an option to you...The change to R2 is critical, in my opinion...Your mileage may vary and these mods are made at your own peril, but are not hazardous... The Murania radio is an outstanding kit and highly recommended...Please email me with any questions...73 Jim WB2LHP in MI

Paul,
Good going Paul. Can you receive WHO 1040, or WMT 600 ? It will be good to have your rcvr as a demo unit for the upcoming Expo. 72 WAØITP I love this radio stuff. www.wa0itp.com www.4sqrp.com On 7/13/2018 10:21 AM, Paul Cartwright wrote:

Thanks for the reply Johnny. I did go ahead and finish it last night. It worked perfectly even though I did not get the hiss like the manual said. Interestingly, I had put the continuity tester across the primary coil of the transformer and heard a hiss from the speaker. So, I knew that the transformer through the speaker was wired correctly. Gm Paul I built mine a few weeks ago And that was my outcome as well. Dave advised me to go ahead with the build. I did all everything was fine. I think we may need to update the manual. 72 Johnny AC0BQ

No hiss from speaker
Paul Cartwright
I have finished the audio amplifier portion of the build. I am not able to hear any hiss from the speaker while following the test instructions. The power circuit tested at 1.7 volts. I have double checked the components and connections, including comparing my circuit with the photos on the website. Everything looks correct. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem? Independence from Boredom!
Good afternoon all: Hope you are having a Safe and Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 I am pleased to announce the latest kit from the 4 sqrp Group. Talk to anyone who was around during the Sputnik era and he will tell you how exciting it was when the first transistor radios were introduced. For the first time, you could have a portable radio that could slip into your pocket, and affordable enough that young people could take their music with them anywhere. The Four-State QRP Group has brought back the thrill of those days gone by with the Murania receiver! Designed by David Cripe NM0S, this simple kit is the perfect starter project to get young people interested in our hobby or to bring back those warm memories gained listening to your first portable radio.

4SQRP is an IRS-recognized 509(a)(2) Public Charity for Scientific Purposes. All proceeds from kit sales go towards the production of our annual OzarkCon information-sharing and education conference held in early April each year. -------------------------------- Thanks 72, 73 Johnny AC0BQ 🇺🇸 Check out the 4SQRP website at 4sqrp.com
