Re: Member List and SSS reminder

WI4T <wi4t@...>

Thanks guys, I have fallen off the roof putting up an antenna 7 years ago, broke ribs in 11 places,  punctured my lung and a long recovery… at the time I wished it had been 100 foot for sure!

I have a 1600’ sky loop up 50 foot in my trees….this is a killer antenna on 160 meters and 2.0 SWR or less on all HF bands so tunes well.   I have a 180 acre farm with the perfect tree layout around one of the fields.  I also have a hex beam up about 25 feet.  So I have been active on the HF including 6 meters.  I will check-out the net if not in Church at that time.

I suspect falling from 40-50' hurts more than from 100' (hi).  Nevertheless, I also recommend asking a younger, experienced person to do the climbing for you.  Buy him a 6-pack of his favorite brew, but don't let him drink any until he's back on the ground.

In the meantime, string up a wire and try your hand at the Second Sunday Sprint this Sunday evening from 7:00-9:00 pm CST.  Go to the 4SQRP website (on air activities) for full details.  An NVIS antenna might work better for the SSS than a beam antenna on a high tower, except possibly for our coastal members.

I have all the equipment (gin pole, harness etc… but I am only comfortable up to 40-50 foot… I might start and get at least that high but have not made a firm decision yet. I have several volunteers for the “ground” crew.  I have the concrete going in for the anchors and both towers next week.  It will be nice to see progress!  The LM-470 base will need to sit 30 days before attaching the tower to it. but the Rohn should be ready in a couple weeks.

BTW nice to meet you guys

I am one of the new guys - WI4T (Greg) from near Jerico Springs Missouri and I am coming to OzarkCon...  just saying :>)

I have been a ham for 30 years and am currently installing a 90' Rohn 25 if I can find a climber (I climb but had heart surgery 1 year ago and trying to decide if I should climb that high).   Also I have ordered a LM-470 which should be here in a month or so for my Cubex Mark IV extended boom quad (30 foot boom with 4 - 26 foot spreaders.  Should do a good job on QRP.

I look forward to meeting people at OzarkCon!
