I use the Baofeng UV-5RA. It is inexpensive (around $30), operates well with a gooe Nagoya antenna, programs via computer or manually (easily), and provides 5 watts with a battery that lasts a long while.

May not have as many bells and whistles as my IC T8a, but is an excellent rig.
