NDB = Non Directional Beacon like the old aircraft beacons that used to identify airports and give old time pilots a signal to follow to the airport or take reading from three or four beacons and use that to tell where they are...... they are slowly wearing out and not being replaced since GPS is much more accurate and receivers are so cheap.

Some radio enthusiasts still get a hoot listening for them in the long wave band and some even go so far as to head out in the wild open spaces (noise free places) for a listening contest on weekends.

Also not a bad idea, except that NDB's have a limited life.  More and
more are being shut down as time goes on, and probably within 10 years
there won't be any left on the air.
