It seems to me that would be a great setup and very fitting for a "rock bound" application.  Even an old fashioned rotary switch would work and would be simple.  Maybe an "NS-60"...

5 channels = 5 xtals?, maybe a push button to "scroll" through the channels with a simple LED indicator to report which channel it's set to?
