Re: SOTA and Ozarkcon

Links for SOTA:

http://www.sota.org.uk/    - This is the overarching organization and where you register to record the summits you've chased and those you've activated.

http;//www.sotawatch.org  - Here you can look for summits in your area to activate, or look at the summits you've chased, and see which summits are at the moment being activated along with frequencies and modes (the "Spots" page). If you are headed to a summit to activate, you can post an "Alert" so that chaser will have an idea what summit you will be activating, when, and usually what modes and frequencies you expect to use.

I'm very sad not to be at Ozarkcon once again this year. Somehow my work obligations consistently figure out how to prevent my attendance!

Would someone provide a brief synopsis of the planned activity next
weekend? When, what peaks, web pages, frequencies, etc ? I suspect that
there are many Four Staters that would like to work and support the
activators. Some of us in the Stonecastle may try to make contact
also. There is much in interest in SOTA activities, so perhaps links to
informative web pages would be also good and encourage some to join SOTA.

SOTA and Ozarkcon

Yes, there will indeed be SOTA activations being done in conjunction with the Ozarkcon event again this year.  There are a number of SOTA activators attending Ozarkcon this year and I’ll try to list some of the ones I’m sure are attending:
W0MNA – Gary, W0ERI – Martha, John – N0EVH, Frank – KD0MQO, - WD9F – Woody, W5RST – Mike, N0SA – Larry and WG0AT – Steve who will also be giving a presentation on Saturday.

Some of these SOTA people will be activating summits starting on Wednesday afternoon while on their way to Branson.  The summits I know will be activated are all within a 100 mile radius of Branson. These summits are Webster County High Point and Pilot Knob in Missouri plus Kennedy Mountain, Boat Mountain and Whitney Mountain in Northern Arkansas.  There may be others, but I’ve not heard all of the activities planned by some of the other possible activators.

People can follow the activations plus find out the times and operating frequencies by going on-line to www.sotawatch.org where activators are listed and spotted.  The main modes in use will be CW and SSB and bands will be any that are good on those days.  Activations will be for sure happening on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday if the weather permits.  There may be some more activity on Sunday as people head home.

Hope to work a few of you while on a summit as see you at Ozarkcon.

Re: HAPPY EASTER

John Lonigro

I smelled it here in Kirkwood, MO (SW of St. Louis) and thought someone was illegally burning leaves.  It was very strong in the area and made the evening news.  Some people called 911, thinking there was a fire nearby.

And I've got a picture of me grilling chicken on Easter Sunday during a heavy snowfall, several years back.  It didn't stick and was nothing compared to Johnny's pictures.

Looking forward to the end of the week!
