Thanks to all and hope to cu next week.

KC9ON makes an add-on crystal switcher for the pixies, 49ers, frogs, and rockmites that he sells here:
I would think it should work fine for the NS-40. I think he's temporarily out of them, but I ordered a couple from him on eBay and they should be arriving soon. Watch the site for when he gets them back in stock. --Neil W2NDG

If you are going to bend the pipe into a circular shape, make certain you buy soft drawn copper (it comes in a roll). The hard drawn copper pipe will not bend. 73, Don W3FPR

A couple nights ago I worked a ham using a 4.5 foot loop using the material you mentioned. He had a decent signal on 80m. I could inquire how he matched it.

Re: Loop antenna at Ozarkcon
Charles W. Powell
Depends on what frequency you want to use and how efficient you want your antenna to be. Check out the site:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
This will give you an idea of how loop element diameter, circumference, power input, and capacitors affect the function and efficiency, as well as the voltage that develops across the capacitor. At QRP 5 watts you still get in excess of 500 volts over the plates. And remember that diameter of the loop is circumference divide by π (πd = circumference, so c/π = d). Soft copper 1/8” tubing makes a great coupling loop but it’s not very efficient for the radiator until you get up to 50 MHz. Send a private email to me and I will send info on the loop I recently built. 72, Chas NK8O

Loop antenna at Ozarkcon
Paul Smith
Hello Everyone,
There was a loop antenna in the home brew build items that used a MFJ 9232 loop tuner. The loop was made of 3/8 soft copper. Does anyone have any idea what the diameter of the loop was. I ordered a loop tuner and it arrived today. I have some soft drawn coper but was not sharp enough to measure the loop. I have the manual but it calls for MUCH larger loop size than this was. Any help would be appreciated. de Paul N0NBD

NS-40 crystal switch
Bill VanKirk
I have an NS-40 I built a couple years ago that I would like to put on the air. I would like to switch 6 different crystals rather than change crystals to change frequency. Has anyone done this and if so is there anything special I need to consider in order to switch the crystals? W0PT73

Second Sunday Sprint coming up
John Lonigro
This coming Sunday (April 10th) is the April Second Sunday Sprint (SSS). The operating rules haven't changed. The frequencies haven't changed. The time hasn't changed (7:00-9:00 pm CDT). However, the method of reporting your score HAS changed. No longer should you send me an email with your results. Instead, thanks to Diz (W8DIZ), you need to go to "qrpcontest.com" to log your scores. When you get there, select the 4SQRP Second Sunday Sprint. Once you do that, click on AUTOLOG reporting and go from there. The logging software does all the calculating and tabulating. If you have any questions that the Contest Rules link doesn't answer, please email me.
This is the first month of the new reporting method, but I've done extensive testing (slight exaggeration) and it all seems to work FB. The only change is the scores from November, 2015 through December, 2016 will be combined to determine the overall 2016 winner. Previously, it was November through September. After 2016, the contest year will coincide with the calendar year (January - December). From now on, the year's top score will be announced in January of the following year. As usual, please submit your scores promptly. I will be busy with house guests and a family wedding this weekend and won't be checking my email very regularly. especially in the evenings. Let's have a lot of participation this weekend, to wring out the new system. 72, John, AA0VE (Had a great time at Ozarkcon, as usual. Lots of good prizes, good food, and (last but not least) good companionship!)

That Strange Noise On 40 Meter CW
Sam Neal
Hello,
After 50 plus years of electronic keyers, I decided to join the bug operators again. It arrived today ( VIZ vertical bug ) and is a thing of beauty - about 99 % polished brass. I hooked it up to my WRL Globe Chief and had a nice QSO with W8TY in Lima Ohio who was running a 5763 at 8 Watts ( and was very patient with my terrible keying ). This will certainly take some getting used to, after chasing DX at 45 WPM with keyers, not having used a bug in 50 - 55 years. How do you get used to having to manually make the dashes. I tried opening up the spacing on the dots and dashes, but I still sound " like a beginner with his first bug"! I hooked it to a solid state code practice oscillator left over from my code class teaching days. Had to because keying cathode keyed rigs like the AT-1 and DX-20 place some pretty potent Voltage on parts of the bug. Any tips would be appreciated. 73, Sam Neal N5AF
