First kit ideas wanted
Paul Hoegstrom
To all - This is my first foray on here, and as well, I'm only recently re-active in radio. I have my venerable HW8 station set up, but it's in need of work beyond my tools and expertise. So until I get the funds saved for a KX3 (which I have a savings account for) I realize I'm going to have to build my own as I can get the $$$. I may have equipment for numerous bands, but that's what I'm going to have to deal with. I can do basic (and decent) assembly and soldering so I'm okay there. I'm looking for CW, I have a keyer and also a kit for a little micro-keyer (name eludes me at the moment). I have a random wire antenna and counterpoise with an MFJ tuner/meter. Mine is not a vague "what kit should I buy“ but a question of what individuals might suggest as a starting point as their personal thought. I have scoured the net and have so many options my brain hurts. (I did order a Tuna Tun II from QRPme that I will will build while a friend builds a hammered copper chassis.) I'm curious what others think. Then I can compare what I have seen with what others think, and if I see some overlap or consistencies? Then I have a starting point. Again, not asking "What should I buy, but what would you suggest as a starter. Thanks for your time. Paul (N1HOB)

New 4SQRP Kit - Antenuator
The very small 20 dB Antenuator Kit is now available and ready to work in your shack as a valuable addition to the workbench OR if you transmitter hunt, its perfect to find that rabbit transmitter. The kit was on the Group's kit sales table at OzarkCon 2016 so you will recognize it again by visiting: If there are VHF / UHF transmitter hunts in your area, please let that group know of the kit availability. Thank you for supporting the kits offered by 4SQRP, the sales proceeds help fund OzarkCon 73.... Walter - K5EST - Kit Manager 4SQRP

Thanks for the notice. I'm new to the group but already built a 4s-tuner and really enjoyed that. It does a great job! Looking forward to building the zzrx40! John-n5rng John

ZZ40RX BACK IN STOCK!
Gm all:
I just wanted to post a note to let you know that we have the ZZRX40 receivers back in stock. We had a part issue (the case was made fabricated in a mirror image) oops! The new cases are in and ready to go! Super easy fun build, ready to use before the soldering iron cools off! Here is the hyper link to the web If your reading this from FDIM, have fun, and be safe heading back home. 72 Johnny AC0BQ -- QRP....."More smiles per Watt" JOHNNY AC0BQ ..72

Re: Home-brew magnetic loop
Charles W. Powell
Not a problem Jim. I have sent this enough times that I just need to copy and paste. This tunes and radiates well on 17 & 20 meters. Tunes well and radiates fair on 30 meters. Tunes well and radiates poorly on 40 meters. 9’ is a good length for 15-17, with some compromise on 20 meters, and 6’ is a good length for 10-12 meters, with a compromise on 15. Coupling loop is 20% of the full sized loop. Chas - NK8O Dimensions and materials 12’ LMR-400 for the main loop 2.4’ of copper tubing Capacitor salvaged from an old Denton tuner that no longer worked Electrical box for the capacitor Various SO-239 connectors 1/2” schedule 40 PVC Station in a bag (18” long) Antenna parts in the bag Laid out, ready to assemble The base, assembled. I now use a shorter extension for better stability. Laying out the main loop. And connecting the capacitor. Shield only. Inner connector is not used. Ready to make QRM from Riverside Park, Scottsbluff NE And the rest of my station - KX3/PX3, Macbook Air, 4.6 Ah LiFePO4 battery Me with the loop Capacitor detail. Ideally, an butterfly or vacuum variable is superior. Coupling loop mounting details. This is “new and improved” over the one pictured above. 12 gauge wire was used, soldered to the tubing after crimping, and the whole assembly pulled in as tight as possible. SO-239 then soldered into place on the center post, and held with a screw and nut on the “ground" side.

Hi Chas,
I know it is quite a while after you sent this email, but if you still are willing to send me the pictures of your loop, I’d appreciate it. School is out now and I am planning to play radio a bit.

I just built my first magnetic loop antenna. So far, I am very impressed with the performance. The cost was less than 1/3 of the Chameleon and 1/4 that of the Alex loop. Except the capacitor box that I built at home with my electric drill, the framework was cut and assembled in my HOTEL room. If you are interested in great loop antenna that is easy to build, and costs < $100 if you have a tuning capacitor and < $150 if you have to purchase the capacitor, then send me an off-list e-mail NK8O at ARRL dot NET and I will send pictures with annotations on what I built. IT REQUIRES NO ADDITIONAL TUNER, and it is multiband. You can tweak it to your own needs. No virus found in this message. No virus found in this message.

3 days to the WBB event is gone and 2 days remaining is half over...
Rex Harper
Gangue,
Yesterday was a blur trying to get all my last minute chores done and everything packed and ready to travel. Worked all day without even stopping for lunch or dinner. Ate a few crackers while I was pushing and shoving stuff into boxes and suitcases. Went home around 11Pm, shoved some clothes into the cases, loaded the car and drove off a little after 1AM. Finally got to the FDIM hotel around 2 Oclock and now I'm right back into it trying to get ready to hand out some WBB kits tonight... I just posted the PRELIMINARY Sorting and Assembling document here: http://qrpme.com/docs/WBB%20Sort%20and%20Assemble.pdf Check it out and be ready to sort and assemble tomorrow. Less than 24 hours to the big WBB event! Rex W1REX
