I do keep a check on propagation reports but really pay attention to them about as much as I do the local weather man...they are a 'best guess'...like many others I have made contacts when the reports said it wasn't worth trying....I figure it is kinda like surfing...gotta wait, watch and time you effort to the best set of waves and hopefully pick the biggest one and ride it for all it is worth... Preaching to the choir here but just have to say that ignoring the propagation numbers / forecasts may be a good idea. For the first time in my 38 year Ham career, I recently moved a rig into my home office (from my basement shack). I now monitor, and occasionally call CQ at the QRP frequencies no matter what the prop. numbers say as I'm working in the office. I work many other QRP stations throughout the day, and the RBN always picks me up somewhere. Often, when calling CQ at 5W, the RBN spots me at 10db or better in many different states but no response. Are too many of us believing the bands are dead when they aren't? Sure, sigs are sometimes weak and I have to wear the cans but I'm making Qs. Good old W2KJ (Joe) and I carried on a fun 2 X QRP rag chew on 20M this morning. He on his new KX2 and me on my IC-7200 at 5W. Come on guys. Join the party! / Woody / WD9F

QTH: Wareham MA, portable, next to Tobey Hospital. 14027 KHz QSO end time 0048 UTC. M0IKE in Chesterfield, England, 100 watts with 2 el quad (Yaesu FT-5000 MP). My station: Elecraft KX2 & homebrew magnetic loop. Report to him - (true) 599 QSB, report to me - 549 with QSB to S0, QRK 5. We had a nice chat. He dropped to 5 watts at one point and remained QRK 5 but went back up to 100 w at the end of the QSO. Not bad for the current solar conditions! Being on the coast helps, I’ll grant. I also worked Czech Republic last evening.

I also note that when the bands are abandoned by others, I often have 2x QRP rag chews. 73, Chas

I’ll also be the fox for the last hunt of the season. I have not even listened to 20M this summer so I have no idea what to expect for conditions.
I will be transmitting somewhere between 14050 and 14070 KHz on Thursday evening June 30th at 21:00 – 22:30 EDT. I am located in Newton NH about 50 miles north of Boston MA and about 10 miles inland. My rig is a K3 set at 5 watts. The antenna is a 3 element beam at 70 feet which I will move between NW and S.
If you are new to the foxhunt the rules are on the website www.qrpfoxhunt.org

Spoken for These would make a super intercom system.. just add a 90v ringing voltage, talk battery.. and away... you go.
Actually.. if there is interest, I will clean them up. IF not.. trash bay. Oh.. and BTW.. I've a complete key system too. if someone wants it.
not qrp.. but all of it runs on low power. Batteries will hold up for a long long long time. FS.. yes.. heavy to ship.. flat rate box will do fine. figure about $20 or so for shipping.. whatever is on the label... we can figure that out before shipping.
Need an intercom to you doghouse? Here it is!!

Hi Chas, Yes, you are completely correct, on both. Yes, and I can relate to wife concerns too.. have similar issues here. I hate to see them go too.. But if someone doesn't want them for the cost of shipping..(actual).. then away they go. Someone wants them, I'll clean them to make them presentable to XYL.. so they can be talked about, rather than sworn at.

On that same topic, a telephone museum opened up recently in the
St. Louis area. It traces the 150 year history of phones. They
have a phone booth exhibit, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of
the ones used by Superman (hi). I think the phones Dale has for
sale are probably represented, but, believe it or not, they are
near the "modern" portion of the museum.

Hope everyone had a good Field Day this past weekend. I participated only slightly, helping to put up a G5RV antenna and volunteering to put together our ARRL submittal, which is the least fun (but still essential) part of the weekend. If you found yourself rusty with your CW, remember the 4SQRP nets on Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings. And don't forget the Second Sunday Sprint. The next sprint will be on July 10th. As usual, I'll try to send ample reminders. 72, John AA0VE

RMRc net
Dale Putnam
Mother Nature wins this one.. Had AA7CU check in on 20.. but heard no one else.. went to QSY and was reminded to look outside, checked the lightning map, https://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#m=sat;r=0;t=2;s=0;o=0;b=;n=0;y=41.1444;x=-104.6104;z=10;d=2;dl=2;dc=0; and decided discretion is the better part of valor.. so.. cancelled the RMRC net on 40. This is a long term, slow moving, charged storm.. See you Thurs.

Learning to copy code off air with keyboard..........FD
Phil <w0xiphil@...>
file=typing-and-code-062816
The following url address is one of the typing programs I found for
drilling..............
Hey, found this typing program that might help with learning to type
out/copy CW sources via keybaord.
Copied the following off the air: "w4fde 73 and have a good
day"
Yesterday's FD CW experience with a keyboard and n3fjp logging program
prompted this drill activity.
I found that I type reasonably at about 40 WPM, sufficient to copy clear
code at about 20.....
Interference and noise add to the fun!
Give the program listed above a try.

Re: FS NE-Scaf filter
This filter is built up inside a nice compact silver metal box and will
dig out the weakest CW station under these band conditions.\$50.00 shipped and
any location past the mid West add $5.00 for shipping.
I also have the older MFJ 5 WATT CW rigs,40 and 20 Meters.
One has the CW filter and the other has the filter and the
keyer.
Make an offer for both + shipping
