Re: Tiny 2A Variable Regulated DC Power Supply - Performance ? Quality?
Nick-WA5BDU
That's pretty tempting. And the meter
is a nice touch. Just adding a meter to my existing bench supply
would cost more than that. Sometimes a boost regulator can be handy -- if you have a rig that gets fussy when the voltage goes much below 12V or even 13V and you're using an AGM battery a boost to a constant 13.8V can be helpful. I got this one that I like a lot: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-Converter-QS-1212CCBA-80W-Power-Supply-Auto-Boost-Buck-80W-CC-CV-Charger-/251166639333?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7ab2c4e5 More money, but rated 80W and it comes in a nicely made metal box. 72, Nick, WA5BDU

Yep, I think you're right.. but he can hear a bit of me... and Bozeman is a short hop on any band from here...but it is a "stretch" for 20 (short distance is tuff for me on 20). But if we try a bit earlier, maybe the band will still be short from the "high noon" effect. We'll see. I'll call at 2045 with 20w.. we'll make it. Dale, you were 57 to 59 here in AZ for the whole net. There was some QSB but a really good signal. Could be that 20M was long as I am 750miles from your location and Bozeman, MT is only 300 miles. Bob AF9W

Tiny 2A Variable Regulated DC Power Supply - Performance ? Quality?
OK, guys! I guess I've been living under a rock for too long.
This morning I just stumbled onto this listing from eBay for an inexpensive, tiny - and I mean SMALL power supply module from China with digital r/o, 2 amps (perfect for QRP), and fully adjustable. I feel kinda small myself right now, I didn't even know this sort of QRP friendly stuff was even out there. The winning bids for these modules seem to be under $20 w/ FREE shipping from Hong Kong. Without the digital r/o, some modules of this sort are selling in the TWO dollar range. Have you used one of these modules? What are your experiences - any good? I just can't believe the price/ performance ratio - let alone the size of these things! LM2596 Power Step-down Module DC 4.0~40 to 1.3-37V Adjustable + LED Voltmeter <http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lm2596-power-step-down-module-dc-4-0-40v-to-1-3-37v-adjustable-led-voltmeter-2A-/300735862768?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46054117f0> 72 Bruce - KKoS

Re: Dash!
If one had a pickup truck, the 55 gallon barrel idea wouldn't be that far fetched. You could disguise it by putting a modified hand crank pump on the barrel. Modify the pump to be a small hand cranked generator (you could get your wife to crank the gen while you operated). With all the "prepping" going on these days that wouldn't be as far fetched as it sounds (except for getting the wife to crank the generator - ""reality check"").
Now, I almost expect Walter, K5EST to show up at OzarkCon with one of these, considering his "tailgate" entry into the "Wacky Key" contest a couple years ago! Maybe we ought to have a "Wacky Rig" contest one of these years - LOL!

Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur
Tim N9PUZ
Ozarkcon Attendees... Have I got an opportunity for you!
A while back at a hamfest I scored a Copyright 1977 copy of "the builders bible" -- Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur by Wes Hayward W7ZOI and Doug DeMaw W1FB. I already owned a copy of this fine book but they are hard to come by so I couldn't pass it up. At the Ozarkon convention this year there will be a silent auction with the winner going home with the book. Be generous in your bids because ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS ITEM WILL GO TO THE 4SQRP GROUP IN SUPPORT OF FUTURE OZARKCON EVENTS! There will be an auction sheet at the 4SQRP table. Put down your name and bid. The successful bidder will be announced around 4pm on Saturday. Hope to see you all there! 73, Tim N9PUZ

You are right Terry, we "knew that"!!! However, it is neat that the qrp movement is getting some well earned recognition. Riley Hollingsworth's article in "CQ" where he simply said that it is only the qrp groups that are doing those things, building, operating portable, having enthusiastic forums like---aah let me see, oh yes, like OzarkCon:-) Don't want to put any words in Riley's mouth but that is what he said, in essence.
