Several new kits are in the works and kitters are a very important part of the many folks that make Ozarkcon possible.

Helping with the kitting process only takes a few hours a week for the most part and helps so many Hams enjoy building projects that are affordable and useful. We sell kits worldwide which helps keep the kit prices down.

There is no dollar investment required from you.

If you would like to join in the fun by being a kitter and help keep Ozarkcon the premier QRP Conference in the Midwest, please contact me.

Re: EZ Keyer III

RCWeeks <neotoxo54@...>

Thanks Dave for that tidbit of information.

BUT, my Easy Keyer III doesn't like any straight key...I've tried all the different key settings...paddle, bug, straight and even reversed the paddles in the different settings but mine will not allow me to send much faster that 10 WPM...it seems the dits aren't sharp/crisp enough and if sent too fast they tend to blend into dahs...I tried adjusting the speed but it seems that part is deactivated whenever the keyer is set to Straight Key...

If someone has a remedy for this I'd love to be able to use it as described in the previous email.

Thanks, 72s

Some have been known to say that I am losing my hearing (depends on who you ask). Anyway, I got my EZ Keyer III out to tinker with and maybe program some of the files to use with my Bayou Jumper, and also see if it would function as a side tone. At first I thought the battery was dead but with more tinkering and holding it up to my ear I could hear that the little piezo speaker was putting out sound..... But not much. My wife could hear it up stairs and wondered what the racket was.

Rest of story: today I received the larger Piezo speaker from DigiKey, the one mentioned in the build instructions. Well, now I have a keyer I can hear! There is a volume control inside the keyer but I have it turned up as high as it will go. Now to replace the IRF510 in the voltage reverse protection circuit and get back on the air. Neat little keyer.

So, if you are looking for a side tone AND a keyer for the BJ try the EZ Keyer III. I think you will be satisfied. The built in key in the BJ is "cute" but not comfortable to use and without the side tone how do I know how many mistakes I am making?

Today, W5RZ and I had a 2xPixie QSO, both running 1/2W and about 185 miles apart.  So we both had to dig the other's signal out of the mud with compromised reception.

I can show you the surgery scars to prove it (from 1983).

Just worked KC3RN/QRP on 7.050 with Sea Sprite (Pixie) @ 1/2 W, about 1100 miles.   I answered his CQ.  7.118 has been unfruitful as has been calling CQ with 1/2W.  H&P works better for me.

Burned my fingers on the reverse polarity IRF510. Rig was drawing 2.4 amps! Replaced it with junk box spare and all ok. Must be a QC issue with supplier.

Calling all Bayou Jumper Agents,

Here's a long test message created with Mike, N2HTT's program. Still
using the mary had a little lamb poem for the keys so even manual
decoding will work right if you get things in the proper order. Please
let me know how you fared - instructions on how to reply are contained
in the message. If you can't get it to decode, please let me know off

Re: Long Test Message for you to play with

Gentlemen,
In order to decode these messages, you must first download the Message Encryption Techniques for Field Agents from the Bayou Jumper Yahoo group files section, read and understand it or you'll never get it.

If you can't access that file, you're going to be lost unless you download and install Mike Aiello N2HTT's Python program - _rebecca.zip from the files section as well and either get Python running on Windows (it's out there and runs quite well on the Windows platform) or if you're running Linux, you should already be familiar with the Python language and it may be even easier.  All the messages we are generating so far are using the Poem Code "Mary had a little lamb" as spelled out in the Encryption Techniques PDF file and unless a different poem is specified, that will always be the key generator.
