Re: cricket power

Hello everyone !
I get 9 volt batteries 2 for a dollar at dollar tree !
Sorta neat a rig running off a 9 volt battery !
If you ask me a volt alkaline battery is a 9-volt alkaline battery I don't care how much you pay for it !
And I think you can pay a pretty penny too !
I could run the cricket with my regulated power supply !
But I get a really good run with a 9 volt battery !

I like to blame space aliens or the Men in Black. Try diodes instead of resistors to reduce the voltage. One diode should drop the voltage 1.2 or .06 volts regardless of the currant pull.Or leave it at 12 volts. Mark/WQ8S

Jim:

Read the supply voltage when you hook up the Cricket, not the voltage at the battery, but the voltage at the Cricket.  I'm betting the Cricket's load will bring the voltage down well below 9.00 volts.  Then measure it while transmitting and it will be even lower.  If you want to use your grandson's 12 volt battery for your supply, your best bet is to build a simple voltage regulator (2 capacitors and 1 voltage regulator (LM7809).  That will keep the voltage at 9 volts all the way up to a load of 1 Amp.

Hi Charles and Everyone, you do not need a Windows computer to register.

Like Paul - N0NBD mentioned the showing pages for Ozarkcon are partials from last year's Conference. The updating is beginning to take shape.I wouldn't look at registration being open until sometime after the QRP Banner is published. I would like the pages to be pretty well complete so registrants can see the terrific speaker sessions and some different changes that are included in this year's Ozarkcon. The changes are minimal but open up more fun.

There will be registration announcements on various QRP email lists and our Group email readers will know first :-)

Hang in there, Everyone, it will be worth the wait!.....73,

Re: The Cricket transceiver is Great!

Thank You Curt,

I have a question on your cricket.  I believe yours is also an 80A.  I measured an output of 750mW on my bird 4410 watt meter.
I am using a 9 VDC (8.9v measured during key down) linear power adapter from the local Goodwill store in place of a 9v battery.

Is that sound about correct to you.  I am still learning about this insect! HI

Here in NJ I was tuned up to give it a try.  From KV6Z I only could read a couple of CQs and a fragment of his call.  K9NRW was 559 and WA9PWP 339.  No wrist action from here was justified.

Well .  .  .  .  . technically there was a 100% improvement in participation over last week.
I had very rough QSO with Barry - K9NRW in IL. It took me 2 tries just to get his call.
Unfortunately he evaporated before much else could be exchanged.
Better luck with Paul - WA9PWP in cheeseland. He was 229 through the QRN and QSB but copyable.
Sorry if I couldn't copy any others.

Hope conditions improve soon.
