Wow, Gary,

If you heard me at 569, with three hours more darkness we might have done another 80m QSO as we did on 14 Jan.

But I didn't pick you out from among the all the unreadables I was hearing on 3.564 mHz.

80M was pretty long tonight. I copied the QSO with WA9PWP and W2SH both stations 569. Some fast QSB, but good solid copy. Also heard W0OTM and NK8O. I called several times on 3564 and 3579, but not making the trip.

Re: Wed 80 meter net

Charles W. Powell

Paul - I had great signals coming in tonight so I logged the follow stations for the net on 80 meters:

  1. WA9PWP       Paul in WI      579
  2. W0OTM         Marshall in IA  579
  3. KD0WF          Jim in MO       569
  4. KV6Z              Bill in OK        589
  5. W0MFQ          Tom  MO        589
  6. NK8O              Chas KS        Substitute net control

I was overwhelmed with the cacophony on my Cricket so I called but didn’t hang around long when I didn’t get any answers.

72,

Chas
NK8O

So you can add these to the stats,

You have either a way better antenna or better receiver than I do. I heard absolutely nothing tonight, regardless of what rig I had on, not even you.

As on 40m, tonight was disappointing on 80m.  WA9PWP was again heard a bit more readable than he'd been on 40m.  I dropped my callsign a couple of times but no responses.

I could hear a few stations on 3.5674 mHz but nothing to merit my pushing the key.  The one sig that I managed to read was a piece of WØOTM saying he was running 3W.

Paul,
Your receiver is probably fine, it’s that noise level that is killing! I was in there calling too, as well as NK8O and some other 0 station.

Pretty much ditto, Richard, from northern NJ.

This is a real disappointment after the really great condx on both bands that prevailed Wednesday of last week.

At 0202Z and then once again a minute later I heard "WA9PWP" whose 40m sig was at best 349.  I couldn't tell if he was calling CQ or QNIing the 4SQRP net.  I gave him brief calls after each transmission but no luck.  Not a peep was heard from anyone during the following 12 minutes.

Will see if 80m is any better.

Well, buying ..NE. built .NE. operating.  Lot of kits end up unbuilt in a closet or drawer.  Still, potential for lot of chirps out there

Re: New Cricket State

Well now, that's really interesting.
I'm in WA State, where 17 Crickets live, yet never heard one yet.  When they were all purchased, were the Call Signs also collected?  Might be a great way to track down some insects here in the PNW and nearby states.  CA-25, CO-11, UT-3, MT-2.
  That's a decent infestation Hi.

Curt,
I'm not sure where the OP acquired the data for his perception, but you are correct.  As you can see below, the infestation is indeed widespread....across most of the lower 48 and 4 continents.  Depending upon his antenna and propagation there are more than a few Crickets in the 6th, 7th, 5th, and 10th call areas within working distance of AZ.
