It was probably the best copy I’ve had on net control in 5 years or so of off and on listening/trying.  You came back to me but we couldn’t make it work.  Almost went QRO just to make the contact but you started fading ;)

Got one for sure - K3NLT - Russ in VA.
Think I got Chas - W2SH, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Missed another one - SRI.
Signals were very weak tonight plus I had to slide down to  7122.5 to avoid the quacking SSB ducks.
I hope conditions improve soon.

Conditions here in Maryland were absolutely terrible. Thunderstorms were approaching, so I had to QRT fast.
Hopefully next week will be better.

Hello Dale.

Yes,  I am sure I am logged into my gmail account.  I have to log in to my gmail account in order to download my email.  No,  I do not use groups.io web interface to read and answer groups.io messages.  I had to use an email account to register for any groups.io group membership in order to access any group.   Groups.io sends all group messages to that email account unless the user (me) has chosen the "no mail" option.  Some of the groups I am in forbid any user from setting the email option to no mail.  One group places all users on moderation that have their email option set to "no mail" and that is done as a method to limit spammers.  I only use groups.io web interface to perform admin functions.  The point I was trying to make was that the "private" option will only appear in certain situations and is not necessarily placed in each email as a link at the bottom like the "reply" and "reply all" link.  Also the admin/owner/moderator may have chosen "reply to group" as the default action for the group.  If a message says to reply to sender and not to the group them I have to look at my reply to line in order to find that email address and copy it into my buffer then hit reply and remove the group and paste the original sender email address.  Again that is only needed if the default action for replies set by the admin is to reply to group otherwise I can just select reply to sender and it will insert the original message sender's email address.

Thank you.

Jim,
I use the web interface, I actually didn't know you could use an email client for groups.io, I've been using it more like the forums at eham or qrz.

I suspect the "Private" button I mentioned in the other thread might just be a web feature and not in third party email clients.

I use Waterfox (a Firefox 56 derivative) and Thunderbird on a Windows 7 computer.  I get no option to reply to sender at any point so hitting reply gives me no option to send only to author.  I also get no buttons at the bottom,  only links.  I am wondering if a user has their Thunderbird options set to html and not text only if these buttons you are referring to will appear.

As someone else just stated,  there are lots of variations.

Thank you.

If I may... please keep in mind that there's a *lot* of permutations possible here:

  • Your Groups.io profile may be sending you individual messages, or a digest in either rich or plain formatting
  • You may be reading your email via the Groups.io web interface, or via an email client
  • Your email client may be either a webmail interface (a la gmail.com or yahoo.com) or a standalone email client on a computer (Outlook, Thunderbird, macOS Mail)
  • Or you may be using an email client on a smart phone.
Each of these may affect what you see... as well as what you *think* the other guy may be seeing.

And today I realized that some emails that I get are rich-format while others are plain format (I get individual messages and am noticing this behavior on macOS Mail client).

What seems important to understand is this:

  • Our 4SQRP list on Groups.io is set to cause your "reply" or "reply all" attempts to reply ONLY to the list
  • Groups.io tries to give you an alternative, so you can "reply" only to the sender
  • Some times that "reply to sender" feature is easy to find, and obvious. (Look in the footer of emails for a link "Reply to Sender", or the "Private" button on a web form, etc.
  • If you *can't* see a "reply to Sender" or "Private" feature, look for the "View/Reply Online" URL. Clicking this will take you to the web-based view of the email. From there you can do a private reply.
  • If you do this (go to web to do a Private reply), click the "BCC me" check box. You'll get a copy of your email sent to you... and (I *think*) you'll be able to see the other person's email address. Tuck it away in your address book. This can facilitate the ongoing private conversation you'll want to have.

Remember: your mileage may vary from the next guy. But thanks to N6MST for calling my attention to the "Reply to Sender" links in the footer of (most of) the 4SQRP messages. I too learned something :-)

Nor does it happen on my Mac laptop. I use Thunderbird as my email

message I get a new email message that does NOT include the original
message. When I click on the regular "Reply" button the original message
is included.

That extra button outside of the message must be a Windows thing.
