used to do just what you suggest and agree 100%. And I always was
confused with the computer-generated reminder, shown below: Reminder: When: 72, John, AA0VE

I understand your thinking, but nothing would need to be changed. Just add, after the CST time and date, parentheses containing the GMT time and date. That’s what the ARRL does. GMT/UTC exists to reduce confusion, not add to it. The more hams use it, the less confusing it becomes. 73, Kent K9ZTV

I should have reminded everyone to send in your score for the February SSS. Please have your score entered by Tuesday (tomorrow) because I will try to tally everything tomorrow night.

I've known that for a while. That's one reason we don't use UTC. It doesn't make sense for the "Second Sunday Sprint" to fall on a Monday. We could change the name to the "SMS" instead of "SSS", except the second Monday doesn't always follow the second Sunday and, in my opinion, that would be even more confusing. 72, John, AA0VE

John, you missed his point. The date for the Sprint changes to Monday, February 11th, when you give it in UTC. 73, Kent K9ZTV

That's correct. 0100-0300 UTC whenever the Midwest is on Central STANDARD Time, which is NOW. This is a reminder for everyone to enter his score before Tuesday night, which is when I intend to enter the results into my spreadsheet, make the February certificate, and announce the winner for the month. 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

WOW that’s impressive. I love really small radios so much that I have two ATS 3 rigs in altoids tins. In fact I have a lot of gear built in those tins. Ok ok it's a bad habit I know, but it's better than my last habit BOOZE Hi Hi 72 W3BNO

A most interesting design. Seems to pick up a lot of stations at once not much selectivity but better sensitivity than I would have thought. http://veloliner.com/ham/pixiencase.JPG

David- My experience has been that grounding the case of the last crystal (Y4) is sufficient. Without the ground, the crystal case picks up Short-wave broadcast energy. That signal is then capacitively-coupled to the crystal plates, and presto- you've got music/religion with your CW! I haven't found it necessary to ground Y4's case. 73- Dave, K1SWL

I am not 100% if it did make a difference as I didn't make any measurements on it before/after. I have made more than a few filter stages where grounding them like that is pretty standard and good build procedure, granted in older oscillator variations where having them grounded is a good idea. Since this is based on the 5351 chip it may not play the same role. I did it on this build as I took note of a well placed gnd via and said to myself "Can't hurt" so I did it. Since this was a build for another fellow I made sure to build this as if it were for myself. N8DAH

Re: 40m Net
Hey Bill ! I was wondering why you went QRT so quickly....... thought it was something I said or was trying to say ! I am running 5w with my FT-450D, 35.5 ft endfed Inv. V at only 18ft at the apex AGL. You are 969 miles at 309 deg. from me. My ant. is not pure inverted V but a lazy one. FWIW your signal was better at 8 CST than at 5 CST. I copied KA5JRX well as you might expect 80w at 433 miles. I guess that you need to know how many tried vs how many were successful to figure much out from the results. As you know, I was busy during the 6 & 7 Nets, almost stayed home from cards but glad I didn't 'cause I won 50 cents ! Thanks for letting me try to learn CW on your nickel. 73, John KK4ITX Click Here for Zephyrhills Area Amateur Radio Club Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. ![]()

I suspect I may have gotten other QNIs on the 8 pm Net. The QSO with W0MFQ is notable - he was the only QRP close-in station but there is not enough data to demonstrate that a time shift for the net is warranted. Probably best to keep the net at 8 pm CST. 73 Bill KV6Z
