The launch took place at 9AM CST as planned. The CW beacon is working well I
have it at abt 569 on 14.323.5. The GPS isnt working at this point in the flight, so there is no tracking available. A rule of thumb was given me a few days ago that there must be at least 40 dB attenuation to protect the RX front end, but that's also going to depend on what the TX power is to start with.
My old Hallicrafters RXs could handle a bit of a pop at QRP levels when I did manual switching. I'm a bit leery however about subjecting the "newfangled" 857 to similar treatment. I never had a Dow key which would've done nicely for the boat anchors, but - assuming I could put my hands on one - would a Dow key with its mechanical relay have fast enough response time to protect the 857's front end?
What other alternatives are currently in play?

Dave, I've had a little trouble with my truck. I replaced what the shop said was a bad battery, but it seems to be still running a little rough. Sorry your messages to this group got delayed. It appears the spam detector used by Yahoo decided your messages were spam and they got trapped until I found them this morning. Thank you Chuck. I've made the change and this email message checks it out. For my email application, "Reply" puts in the group address, "Reply All" puts in both group address and a cc: to the sender I'm replying to. One more thing accomplished.
