Re: 40 AND 80 METER NET REPORT

Was working the NAQCC 160m Sprint tonight. Took time out to check into the 4S Net.  Funny you should say, 'strange band' Johnny.  I had just mentioned in my log for the 160m Sprint that the band (160m) was long, short, long, short.  Some constant QRN, not wx related.  Fun evening anyway.

Contacts from ME to FL and MN to LA.  Heard several who obviously couldn't hear me. hi

The 40m band for the Fox Hunt last evening was lousy.  Very long.  Made it into MN but could not get the Fox in PA.

It is all very challenging. hi  Been trying to keep up with the Sun Spot numbers since first of the year.  Has not been in any in several days.

At the alignment stage, I've preset R6, 8, 11 and 14 as instructed.

Using a 9 V battery as a power source.

With range switch in the 10 W position, I'm getting zero volts at the test loop.

I do see 9 V at the power pins of U1 and U2, so the range switch
appears to be working.

I removed the innards from the enclosure, inspected all solder joints,
and retouched each one just to make sure there were no cold joints.

Before putting everything back in the enclosure I measured voltage at
the test loop again, and this time I see a good voltage.

I put everything back in the enclosure, and once again, nothing at the
test loop.

Step 3.1 passes (there's no continuity between chassis and blue wire).

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Bilt an SSB-Mite last night

Went pretty well, put it in an Altoids tin. Did not used fixed gain because I had a 100k pot with a switch! At first I wired it up backwards so that when it first turned on it was at maximum gain so took it back out and rotated the pot 180 degrees and redid the connections. It’s a bit messy but functional. Cut a trace and mounted C16 sideways on the bottom of the board, so it is not in the circuit unless I add a jumper on the top. Should give me pretty much the full range of available gain. I like it, I think it works well. Tested it with a KD1JV 20m SlopBucket which already has pretty nice audio. Real test will be with my analogue BITX40 which had a lot of high pitched tone in its audio (that came from I don’t know where). Maybe next weekend.

Thanks Jeff I will try both suggestions.
most appreciated. Planning on working outside as a single operator on Winter Field Day.
I have found my club operations too hectic, but love to operate CW. So will give a try.

Also, if you go to www.b4h.net/cabforms/ that can generate a cabrillo

actually acquires a .txt filename extension when you save it.

Then, you can attach that file to an email, and it will be what

Formatting the contents of that file in Cabrillo format... that's on
