Don -

I'm going for the retrofit, if I can get it.

Shopping at Mouser or Digikey (for me) is like being a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there.

Thanks for the advice!  Paul, AI4EE

If are comfortable taking the rotor apart to service it, you can buy a retrofit kit to change old Ham series rotors to the new single connector style. Hy-gain/CDE is now owned by MFJ. I didn't find them in a quick search of their website,  but they should be able to help you out with a phone call or email.

If you don't want to take the rotor apart to do the retrofit,  Mouser and DigiKey both sell a good selection of 8 connector weatherproof connections that will work.  I feel your pain.  I used to have several of the old style Ham rotors with the screw connectors. It seems like I was always needing to repair a connection or 2.

Nouveau 75A Deaf

Rick Tilton WK4R <rtilton@...>

I hope this is the place to post this.  I have finished my Nouveau 75.  Went well except for Q2 which I had an issue with to say the lest. I have the newer board. I put it in backwards looking at the board and NOT the instructions at that point.  So they were kind enough to send me another one.  Difficulty in removing it but got another installed and I "THINK" it is working.

My NO75A transmits just fine.  Have plenty of audio, etc.  Output app. 6 wattts with peaks of 10-15 watts.  Audio sounds fine from what I can tell.

Unfortunately it is deaf as a stump. It will hear a radio nearby barely. But it can't hear thunder.  Tuning the VFO and hear absolutely no changes.  Yes I have volume and noise.

Suggestions of where to start or what I have done?  As everyone states I could have swore I put it together right! Hi.  I hope this is the appropriate place to ask questions or please guide me.

Hello Keith and your contributors,
Congratulations on a beautiful work of art.  There is an incredible amount of information here
that should keep the most avid builder, cw op, and qrper occupied for hours.  I am really enjoying
the fruits of your labor.  I keep getting sidetracked in the links but it is sure interesting reading.
Thanks again for a job very very well done by you and your contributors.

Cliff Fox (KU4GW)

Ditto Johnny! Thanks Keith! I am thoroughly enjoying this issue with all of the great Morse history and all of the different keys! I'm keeping a copy of this one for future reference and because my memory is so lousy from chemo meds I can wait a few months and it will be like reading it for the first time all over again. Ted McElroy amazes me because at his record speed of 75 wpm and using the P A R I S standard he would have been copying 6.25 characters per second! That's just crazy that he could get his brain to do that! The guy must have been a genius! I'm also amazed with Harry Turner doing 35 wpm with a straight key! I still struggle with 20 wpm copy and still miss a few characters. About to start The Thrill of CW article by Dale, K4EQ now. I love Morse code and history so this edition caters to both for me. Thanks for a most enjoyable and very well done newsletter!

Re: Interested in your experiences and tips using the FT-817 and MiracleWhip antenna

John

Its great on receive

Make a PAC-12 antenna or the G3ycc whip or get a Qrpguys whip for 20m

I have made some great QSOs with the MFJ-1820t 4 ft whip but I am sure its the counterpoise doing all the work

RM0L has been verified via qsl on 20m

I have had 2 of them and they just never worked the way I expected
John VE3IPS

Forget these on shorty antennas 40m unless your on cw
