I'll chime in too to say what an awesome radio the BJ is and how nice it would be to have available again.

Regarding changing your email address and other subscription options, there is a link at the bottom of each and every email from the list that reads "Your Subscription". If you click that link you should be able to change the email address you use for the list as well as all sorts of other options. Tim N9PUZ 4SQRP List Moderator Team

Just go to the groups.io setting, go to your account, and there is an option to change the email associated with your account. Easy peazy.

What I would do is go the the website (4sqrp.com). On the left-hand side of the main page are a bunch of buttons you can select. One of them is the e-mail reflector. Click on that. In the middle of that page is a place to click on "subscribe". When you select that, you'll see places to subscribe as well as unsubscribe. You can subscribe with your new email address and then unsubscribe with your old one (or vice versa). I haven't tried it but I suspect that would be the way to do it. If you find out differently or if someone else truly knows how to do this, please let the rest of us know. Thanks. 72, John, AA0VE

Re: The mysteries of tuning a random wire
Don, W9EBK
Dave, There are too many variables here for me to make a suggestion with much confidence. I don't know what model VNA you are using but if it's a $50 mini-VNA it might be that the numbers you are getting are not accurate. About a year ago there was an article in QEX where someone thoroughly tested one of those. The results showed amazing accuracy most of the time, but there were some situations where the numbers were Very wrong. As I recall this was caused by measuring loads that were resonant on a harmonic of the test frequency. The solution to this problem would be to use a bandpass filter for each band, but in your case the filter might change the xL or xC of the device under test, so that's not likely to work. Don, W9EBK

I'm not sure if the VNA will do this for me, but for now I constructed an Excel spreadsheet where I can just plug in the values the VNA gives me and get the final results. I've checked the calculations a few times and don't find any errors. The results still puzzle me. Some of the numbers I can rationalize from the actual behavior of my ATU but then some of the numbers don't make sense. I may be doing something wrong, or maybe there is some sort of voodoo going on in my wires.

Hi Paul I could pick out a few letters here and there, I heard ack and 8n so I knew you headr me. I wasd running 100 watts to a dipole up 35 ft. What a difference between one and 30 watts. 15 min later you came up enough that I could copy several words so it sure depends on the propagation gods. Fun. 73 Jack, NI8N
