Re: The mysteries of tuning a random wire
Mike Malone
To all of the participants in this thread, first... thank you! Great information. Now second, can I print this in the QRP Quarterly? I would need you all to give me an okay to do so. I would edit it into an article and credit you all with it and probably present it as the thread it is. I found it fascinating and informative, after all... we are all stuck at home and have wire and tuners. This is timely for those with time on their hands. Mike KD5KXF QRP Arci Qrp Quarterly Editor

Re: Field Day Operation remotely as a group
I did finally find a reference to abbreviations and acronyms in a FAQ:
Each participant will submit his or her own independent entry under his or her call sign. ARRL will calculate the aggregate score based upon the club name entered on the official Field Day entry form via the web applet (preferred method) or on the paper Field Day entry form. In order for results to be tabulated correctly, all club participants must enter the club’s official name exactly the same, avoiding abbreviations or acronyms. This is important!I I think the chances for getting Four States QRP Group entered correctly by each participant is less likely than 4SQRP. But - i'll bow to those that will be participating that have a voice for how they'd prefer to specify the club. (I know my old club, the Midland Amateur Radio Club, will be using "Midland ARC") 73, -Ed, WG5F-

Re: Field Day Operation remotely as a group

The Field Day Entry form (field 2) says club name. Our club's interpretation is full name for club. Our acronym is RAGS. We would like everyone to know that is Radio Amateurs of Greater Syracuse.... 4SQRP might work, but would it attract any new members to the club that way? IMHO.

Hey Johnny - naw I'll use my call, thanks.
But if we want to do an aggregate club score, we could us the method described previously. They don't seem to care about sending in a pre-registed list of participants or anything for this "special" Field Day 2020 club score. 72, -Ed, WG5F-

Working here at 8500 feet is like being in a National Park, lots of clear skies, pine trees and meadow larks around. In fact there is a National Monument, https://www.nps.gov/flfo/index.htm, just down the road.
I will be using my PRC319 "Lite" with it's new Hi-Per-Lite audio filter. i had to change the 1 Watter side tones to 714 Hz to get through the filter. (Thanks to N0UTJ for shipping the filter and NM0S for the design. 'NM0S' might look like an obscure call sign to you but NMOS was a popular high density IC fabrication process in the 80's).
It looks like a real PRC319 but it has a '1 Watter' inside <http://www.kitsandparts.com/1watter-V3.php>, driving a Pacific Antenna 10W amplifier <http://www.qrpkits.com/10wamp.html> . It also has a QRPguys Digital Frequency counter in the display window <http://qrpguys.apps-1and1.com/smt-digital-dialcounter>. This whole rig is made up of Kits, (Thanks Kit Makers), all sealed up in a water tight, goat proof case.
You can see photos of the 'PRC319 Lite' in the NAQCC Newsletter:
http://www.naqcc.info/newsletter_current.pdf or in CQ Magazine, June 2017.
It weighs about 7 pounds with a 7S - 26650 LiIon battery pack, barely enough weight to keep a whip vertical.

Re: Field Day Operation remotely as a group
Ya made me look...
I was not able to find anything about acronyms (prohibiting or discouraging) in regards to the club name. Just that it had to spelled exactly the same or it won't get aggregated. If you can send that info - it would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks & 73, -Ed, WG5F-

Damn, I tried to join in, but had a friend drop by to pick up something and by the time I got back, and had a break from work, things were quiet already. I thought I heard some slow CW, which would have been awesome.
