Question Related to My NS40 Transmitter
Bobby Drummond
If I add a 12 or 15 volt regulator in series with the 2N7000 oscillator transistor (to keep the voltage on it lower than the final's new voltage) and supply 24 volts to the IR510 circuit, will it handle the extra voltage? I assume it might need a better heat sink if so. I would also insert a DC switching circuit in series with the power to the transmitter so I would only be switching low voltage and low current DC voltage to effect the same thing as direct key switching. What would be the approximate power output from the transmitter be in that case? 73 de AK4JA

Back on the bench: built the SSCPO!
Picked up a SSCPO at the last convention and, need to have a code oscillator (and also dying to do something electronic!!), I built up the kit last night. It worked right off the bat and it sounded great with the built in key. I intend to build in a jack so I can use it with external keys. The only 'tweak' I had to make on the kit is to add two flat washers between the two spacers and the key strip to add some needed clearance between the key contact (i.e. the head of the screw holding the knob in place) and the pc board connection. A fun build and a great sounding code oscillator. 73 Bob Groh, WA2CKY

19 Sept 2020, Saturday. QTH: Ice Station Zebra, <http://tinyurl.com/zgss4yu>. QRP Afield info: <https://www.newenglandqrp.org/qrp-afield-2018/>.
Equipment: PRC74B, a solid state, fully synthesized, 1964 military backpack radio.
This radio spent 40 years in a junk yard and is now back on the air !
(See pictures and technical info at : <http://www.n6cc.com/anprc-74b-hf-manpack-transceiver>.
It is mounted on an ALICE backpack frame with the AS-1887A, 8 foot antenna, and a ground wire. It is connected to an Elecraft T-1 tuner to get the final antenna match. The entire rig weighs about 30 pounds (Heavy Metal) and that's with the light Li-Ion (3S7P) battery pack. The PRC74 is a Special Forces Radio used for long range military comms.
If you were there, Thanks for your service...

Don't forget to get your telescope out to find Mars. It is nearing maximum apparent diameter. Look for it in the East at 9pm. The best telescopic time will be 2
