Peanut Power Sprint this Sunday - Oct. 4
The Bees have swarmed and the Skeeters are
frozen. Now it's - The Peanut Power Sprint! Everyone plays... Outdoors, Indoors, lo/hi
power... There is even a QRO category. https://www.contestcalendar.com/weeklycont.php?mode=custom&week=next#10776 for a quick summary …..
except one slight change this year: it’s 80,
40, 20. Sponsored by the North Georgia QRP Club (NoGaQrP), this sprint will be held on Oct. 4 from 6PM to 7:59PM EDT, Full rules are on the NoGaQrP website - http://www.nogaqrp.org/PeanutPower/rules.pdf
Your QSO will be worth more if you have a Peanut
number; if you have one from previous years, use it. Or request a new one from KJ4YM@... or pete@... The club is making this one different from most other QRP QSO events. Note: SSB!
1. It is open to all amateurs at any power level. We do this to attract some new folks to QRP while running their comfortable power - QRO (<= 100 watts pls). All are welcome. This is a fun event, not cut-throat!
3. It starts late in the day (right after close of CA QSO party!) which means we start at 3PM PDT, later than most contests.
4. There are categories for all situations - the prestigious category in the Peanut Power category - 1W CW, 2W PEP SSB or less and operating from the field is the GOOBER CLASS! SOTA anyone?
5. Certificates will be awarded for each of 5 category winners (minimum 3 entries).
6. Sprint encourages SSB as well as CW contacts. The exchange: RS(T), State/ Province/Country (S/P/C), and your Peanut Number or Power. Call CQ NUT and have FUN!
8. This will encourage activity on the 3 permitted bands – 80M, 40M, 20M. See the rules for the suggested frequencies for each band/mode. Notice we are encouraging the now almost dead portion of 40M - 7061 kHz and up.
9. Logs are not submitted -simply a score - but keep your log in case it's requested for verification. Watch the NoGaQrP website for results. There is an online score calculator. It's all on the website - http://www.nogaqrp.org
To request your PPN, send an email to NoGaNuT PeTe at Pete@... Requests for special numbers may no longer be accommodated. Remember to include the phrase - "PEANUT POWER NUMBER" in the subject line of your request. See the current list of Peanut Power Numbers here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qoqkq4sa6tq4jrg/ PPS%20Numbers%20by%20Call%202019.xlsx?dl=0

Banner-Transceiver Kits
Keith Arns
Greetings,
For the November Banner I would like to do another survey, this time on transceiver kits. What was your favorite transceiver parts kit that you built and enjoy operating the most. Must be a parts kit; KX3 doesn't count but a K1 or K2 does. Provide a short reason why you chose this kit. Please do not respond here but send your response to editorqrpbanner@... Regards, Keith Arns KC0PP QRP Banner Editor

AM for 30-40 mHz.Correct. The HT-1E and HT-2 (the one shown in the original post) were AM transceivers, the HT-2 having an additional VHF converter that allowed it to hear AM transmissions from the aircraft band. I converted a pair of them to 6 meter AM many years ago and used them at hamfests. As-is they would slide down to 10 meters but I wanted 6 meters which was a lot more work. The problem nowadays is finding crystals or a substitute that will fit in the housings. Cool cold war relics along with the rest of the Village Radio series that turn up from time to time when a warehouse is cleaned out. 73, Bob W9RAN

Single cable to the KX2/KX3 will take care of keying and
frequency readout for loads of loggers. I'm currently using
CQRlog under Linux but I was using it previously with RUMlogNG
under Mac. It's brilliant. Honestly CQRlog is a little clumsier
to use but it still works great. You don't need to store message
on the KX2/KX3. The macro keys or pre-programmed RUN or S&P
messages are sent from your computer. 72, Chas - NK8O

FYI: The Hilltopper, with serial firmware and a USB-Serial cable not only read frequency out to your logging software, it can also key CW macro messages. I used the KX3 setting with mine and it worked perfectly.

AM and some had a small PA system built in for a village speaker. I repaired some from my base in PhuLoi. Sent from my T-Mobile 4G LTE device

But this link specifies that there were units that were AM for 30-40 mHz. They were very similar in external appearance. 73, Jerry N4EO

Keith, I never say anything other than FM versions in the rigs that ended up with hams out of the El Paso Hallicrafters factory that closed in 1974. 73, Jerry N4EO 7

US supplied Vietnam Village VHF handheld QRP radios....
Jerry Brown
Gang, Recollections after a visit to the Fair Radio website today! From my time living in El Paso, TX (Ft Bliss); I was active duty and training in internal medicine at the Army hospital there. Hams friends there got their first solar powered repeater up and running....at 7,200 feet+, on North Mt Franklin! A Texas Air National Guard Chinook took the concrete enclosure for the repeater to the peak for them. Check out the QST (cover) article on this repeater written by Roy Gould, N5RG, that was published in Jan 78 QST (you may have to be an ARRL member to get this article)..... The village VHF radios my roommate Steve Guerra WB5LCN used for building the repeater RX/TX modules are now being sold at Fair Radio. The Hallicrafters plant in El Paso that made these radios closed in 1974. 73, Jerry N4EO, ex-WA4GKO, ex-YI9EO, ex-HL9EO Ret'd US Army
