heard on 17 meters

Hello gang,
I just heard the legendary Chuck Adams K7QO work 4A50CRH on 17 meter CW. I assume he was QRP! FYI Chuck originated the long-running QRP-L email list reflector that I joined in 1994. A great incubator of earlier QRP design, clubs and on-air events. That list continues today under different sponsorship. Is anyone here on that list? It seems to be rudderless as I have tried to rejoin several times over the past few years and get no response from the moderator.

Johnny, Thanks for trying to pull me out of the noise on 80m. I was running mobile in Clinton,OK (90 mi west of OKC on I-40 using an FT-817ND at 5 watts. Surprised you even heard me. :-)
40M net was not heard at all however, Chas NK8O and I had a good Q on 7122. 579/579.

Chas, N2SH was calling on 80m at the end of the net.  I heard him quite well in Louisburg, but obviously Lebo was something of a dead zone for him.  Along the same lines, I could barely hear some of the checkins from my QTH.

Johnny,

Delta took out my 80 Meter inverted vee and twisted the 40 Meter loaded dipole around a bit on the mast with the tribander.
I'm still not really able to climb much yet, so I used a 30 ft Jacktite pole to push a fishing line through the tower.
Then pulled a rope & pully up 30 feet and used that to pull up a 80/40/30 double dipole that is part of my go-kit.
That's the antenna I was using tonight and was getting concerned when I was not hearing the net on 40 Meters but you and Bert were very strong on 80 tonight.
I think I also heard N4KV.
The rig tonight was a MTR4B running about 3 watts to the temporary antenna.

Johnny, I was excited to check in the net tonight on 40 m. I was using my HB1B 5 watt QRP with an inverted V antenna up about 18 feet. You sounded very good here in Western Colorado. It has been maybe several years since I checked in but I am a member of the club. Thanks for slowing down so I could copy.

I stayed with it searching from 7119 to 7123 for the full half hour, almost like my antenna was disconnected.  About a 1/2 hour before the Net W1AW started to fade..... that’s when I knew it probably wasn’t going to be a good night.

80m was just about the same.

Too bad, I need a “P” for my first Word Challenge word for this month’s NAQCC Alphabet Challenge.

See ya next week.

Re: Second Sunday Sprint Results

It could be that the propagation is inching up some.  I have participated several times without reporting no score.

Again last night, Johnny came booming in at S8 and was completely gone in a second and a half on 40m.  20m simply has ZERO noise and not even Digital chatter...... told my XYL that we must live in a Black Hole !

Hope to make the 40 Net tonight.

In September, we had 14 SSS participants, which I thought was very good,

close to a record, which is 17 for 2020.  I don't know the reason for
the sudden upsurge in participation, but I'm not complaining.  Maybe the
pandemic is making everyone bored.

The winner this month, with 24 QSO points, is Nick Nichols, WB5BKL.
Congratulations to Nick.  He will receive his certificate in the email
shortly.

Also, welcome to Steve, WB5CTS.  While he's been a participant in the
past, October was the first month he participated in 2020.

The big news for the month is there is a tie for first place for the
year.  With only two months to go, both John, K4BAI, and Chas, W2SH,
have 144 points.  In third place is Nick, WB5BKL, with 128 points. Carl,
WB0CFF, is also within striking distance.  It's not likely, but it's
possible we could end up with a 3- or 4-way tie at the end of the year.
There won't be any playoffs or sudden death contests to determine the
overall winner.  Regardless of how many people end up in first place
after December, all will get a certificate declaring them a "Co-Winner
for 2020".  Then, after a few brief moments of fame for the winners, the
spreadsheet will be cleared out, ready to start anew in 2021.
