Re: What's On Your Bench?
Gm Tim and the Group We have had both frosty mornings and A light snow already, in Se Ks. I agree, it’s time to clean the bench up and get busy. I’ve got a original AC-1 Tx that needs a new power cord and a 80 meter tank coil wound. I have a UBitx version 3 that needs to be modified before it goes on the air. These little rigs are pretty basic, and It would benefit from a AGC module, as Well as some harmonic upgrades. Other than these, I still have a “stash” Of un built kits that have accumulated over the years. No doubt, plenty to stay busy with this winter. We’re discussing plans of “how” and “If” we can have Ozarkcon next spring and keep the attendees safe from the Bad bug. It sure would be nice to get back to somewhere near normal. 72 Johnny ACØBQ

Re: What's On Your Bench?
I need to put up some antennas (G5RV, Vertical, & EFLW) and get to work on some kits (incl. a QRP-O-Meter and a couple of Pixies). I've just been goofing around and letting stuff pile up...gotta get off my duff and do something! EuGene, KA5NLY

I am thinking of a simple remote antenna switch though. Anyone else have some fun projects lined up? Tim N9PUZ

Couldn't check in tonight. My hotspot let the magic smoke out. Not sure if it was the MMDVM board or the Pi Zero. They have the distinctive odor of dead electronics. 73, Chas - NK8O

SSS Results
John Lonigro
Well, for a moment I was excited. After entering the data, I did a sort to see who bubbled up to the top spot this month. Lo and behold, my callsign showed up! But then I realized I had sorted the list in ascending order, meaning the lowest score showed up first. Yep, that was me, with a big fat 0 for the year. After correcting my mistake, I found that Chas, W2SH, is now in sole possession of 1st place for the year. Chas has 150 QSO points. In second place was John, K4BAI, with 144 points. John didn't show up this month, which dropped him into second place from a tie for first place. In third place for the year is Nick, WB5BKL, with 136 points. Any one of these three people has a decent chance to wind up in first place at the end of the year, which is only a month away.
For November, our intrepid president, Johnny (AC0BQ) gets the honors for finishing first. Johnny had 9 QSO points. His certificate will be sent shortly. The scores this month are noticeably lower, probably due to an overlap with the final two hours of the ARRL CW November Sweepstakes. Well, I don't believe there will be any conflicts with the final month of our 2020 Second Sunday Sprint. Let's hope there is a lot of activity in that final opportunity to either finish first for the month or, better yet, to finish first for the entire year. Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion of the 2020 SSS. Better yet, why not try to participate and get the December certificate for yourself? 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

PRC74 on Veterans Day, 11 Nov. 2020, at 1700z, on 14060.5 kHz.
w0rw
w0rw/pm, 11 Nov. 2020, Honoring Veterans.
Times: 1700z and 2100z,
Freq: 14060.5 kHz, +/- 1 Khz.
The PRC74 is a Viet Nam Era Military Radio. It is a solid state, fully synthesized, 1964, backpack radio.
This radio spent
40 years in a junk yard and is now back on the air !
It is not a 'Hanger Queen'. (See pictures and info at : <http://www.n6cc.com/anprc-74b-hf-manpack-transceiver>. The entire rig weighs 30 (heavy metal) pounds and that's with the new Li-Ion battery pack. It is a Special Forces Radio used for long range comms. This radio has at least 53 HC-49 crystals in it. They are used to mix all the channel frequencies in 1 kHz steps from 2 to 18 MHz. Replacement of all the crystals today would cost $2,000. The original cost was of the radio $5,560. The cost of my new Chevy was $2500. Other similar Green radios used in Viet Nam were the Squad radios, PRC25 and PRC77, for short range low power FM communications, 30-76 MHz. You can read more about this radios in KI0PF's, book..."MIL SPEC RADIO GEAR", or see a PRC74 Video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8m5NuLvw6k made by Steve wg0at.ThanksSteve. My QSL Card is a color picture of my PRC74B. If you are a Veteran, Thank You.... Happy Vets Day...

Send in your score
John Lonigro
This is the monthly reminder to send in your score from yesterday's Second Sunday Sprint (NOT your November Sweepstakes score!). It seems that more than a few of us got caught up in the November sweepstakes by mistake. One person emailed me to complain that we were sending CW at 25-35 wpm. That didn't sound like our contest. From the various emails on this reflector, it obviously wasn't. We're the "Friendly Group", not the "Cutthroat Group" (hi).
Anyway, log onto www.qrpcontest.com and enter your score. As usual, I plan on tabulating the scores Tuesday evening and reporting them Wednesday morning, so get your scores submitted ASAP. 72, John, AA0VE 4SQRP Contest Coordinator

No 4SS stations heard on 80m, 40m, nor 20m. Sweepstakes seems to have everyone (4S) taking break. Lots of QRN from the major solar flare on lower bands, too. That doesn't help QRP stations. C;Ya next month. 73 de n4mj//glenn “PLEASE REMOVE all email addresses before you send it on and use BCC option when forwarding" Thank you!
