this is a fantastic idea to use technology to gather us together.  I watched many of the recorded GQRP presentations - they were indeed presented live -- and a moderator (they may have used a different one for each presentation) took questions at the end - they spent a lot of time with dialog.

if you make it too fancy it may fail -  so go simple with the approach.  something like zoom allows everyone but the presenter to be muted (great idea!) and then use the chat window to take questions.  if audience is well-behaved then consider unmuting everyone after the presentation.

somehow offering an open house to let folk interact is a nice touch, but format needs some thought.

while you all will miss being in Branson live -- its a long trip from the east or west coast.

Re: Ozarkcon 2021

Tom Sevart

Hi guys, sorry I haven't responded in a while but I've been pretty busy here.

I saw the announcement about having three judges choosing the winner of the wacky key contest. I was thinking for the homebrew contest it would be neat if we could set up a website with the pictures or videos of the different projects, and then have people vote for their favorites on that webpage. However, I have very little website or HTML programming ability so I wouldn't be able to set it up. Nor would I have an idea how to prevent fraudulent voting. So perhaps it might be a better idea to use the three judge method for the homebrew contest as well. After the contest is over and winners selected, then perhaps we could showcase all the different projects on a webpage, like on the Ozarkcon or 4SQRP website.

Just throwing around ideas here, nothing's set in stone.

Finally !

John - KK4ITX

Just finally broke down and ordered my BJ,  I think it was the color that twisted my arm or perhaps the nostalgia surrounding the concept.  I really didn’t need another transmitter but this one is unique, has some power and may turn out to be a favorite for some QRP field work.

At my rate of project completions it should be ready for our summer trips to Minnesota and Maine....... wish me luck  !

It cleaned up very well and it works! BUT the internal C cell holder is corroded, and several back panel jacks are badly corroded. Besides being a great keyer, I think the real value is in the Ten Tec case and the Curtis 8044 keyer IC inside!

Either will radiate about the same, so it may came down to which is easier to install. The feedpoint of either antenna should be clear of nearby conductive objects of appreciable size.

Advantage of end fed half wave is usefulness on even harmonics.

Best hope you can install something that radiates, be careful if you encounter electrical wires up there as you install.

Wacky Keys for Ozarkcon

Walter - K5EST

2021 Ozarkcon being virtual still allows for the famous Wacky Key Contest.

Entering will be pretty easy, we will have an email address to send a picture and a short video showing the "creation" actually works.

There are only two contest rules:

1.You can't use any parts from a "real" key.
2.

You must demonstrate the key or paddle by sending some CW on video. 15 seconds is good.

Three judges determine the winner. 1st prize is a portable paddle made by N0SA. It's a treasure!

So please start your Wacky key projects and closer to Ozarkcon time we can open up the email address for entry.
