My bad. Rockmite $15?
Only have wall wart for one of the Alinco HTs but have charging base. Should be easy to source from a junk drawer.

Re: 4S-Tuner SWR Red LED

W3BNO

I had a similar problem with mine. I solved by connecting a 5k trim pot across the red led. With the tuner feeding a 50 ohm dummy load and adjusted for maximum dimming of the red led, I adjusted the pot until the led just extinguished. This does not really effect the sensitivity of the SWR indicator but rather compensates for the required base current into Q1 when Q2 is cut off. I left the pot installed as this is a balance situation so it would be very difficult to match the exact value required using standard value fixed resistors. It would also not be able to accurately calculate the value because it is dependent on the small signal current gain of Q1 and the threshold current of the LED. This worked for me hope it helps.   W3BNO

If I get some time tonight I'll take a look at the schematic.

4S-Tuner SWR Red LED

Daniel Walter

My tuner seems to work well except for one item. The Red LED does not dim significantly. It does dim a bit and that does correspond to low SWR, but it is very difficult to read. Is there an easy mod to lower the brightness a bit? I suspect I can put a resistor in line or another 1N4148 to dim it, but hoping someone has already played with this and has a solution.

I decided to check to see if you still had that MFJ 1699S mobile antenna.

After I sent you an e-mail about the Cyclone I left to go to a local greasy spoon for supper and while I was grazing on their fine cuisine I got to thinking.  I have been licensed for 39 years (since March 1982) and have always operated with 5 watts or less QRP as a fixed station.  I have never operated mobile (except for a CB in my hot rod during my mis-spent youth in the 1960's, long before I became a ham).

Well, if you still have that MFJ mobile antenna I will buy it and put a mobile QRP station in my car...I only live once, so I just gotta do some QRP/Mobile while I have the chance.

So, let me know about the availability of the antenna.

Thanks David,

Yes, I moved the shorted position on the back of the meter.

i checked the diodes, and they are correctly oriented with the forward reading good.

I also reheated the smt resistors a bit.

There is still a nonzero power 0.71 with no RF applied.

Anything else to check?
