Spare parts for Cricket 40?

Mark Sunderlin

I'm building a Cricket 40 I ordered a while ago and ... I messed up.   I got C5 mixed up with C10, as I misread the '181' as 101.  When I tried to de-solder C5, I ended up destroying it.

On Saturday, I emailed Ray, N5SEZ, asking if there would be some way I could purchase a replacement C5 (100p, with 0.2" spacing) and a replacement C10 (180p), bit he has not responded yet.

Am I just being to impatient ... or is Ray offline for a while?

Thanks to all involved in the Ozarkcon Zoom event.  It was super.

Also, just received a nice prize from that event - Kits for Kids LED Blinker.  I will pass this along to a young fella who is interested in electronics/radio. He's almost 6 years old and somewhat of a child prodigy.

I enjoy the 4S Group activities and greatly appreciate all that is accomplished in that name for AR.

Thanks For trying John. I was calling CQ from about 2:40 until I worked K3WW a Local at 2:58 EDST. I may have been trying 7114 by the time you were scanning. I worked NI8N on 7122 at 4 PM EDST. Antenna was a 25 foot wire vertical elevated by a telescoping fishing pole, with one counterpoise tuned with an MFJ Manual Tuner. Next time I will try to give more notice. Most of the activity was on the low end for a QSO party but, a lead separated on my 7030 crystal. 73. Griff NE3I

A simple kit to build. And yet....

One of the simplest tasks should be to attach the two BNC Connectors to the board. The two contained in the kit are different that those in the manual's photos, on the 4s QRP site, or on the web.

The grounding / mounting tabs are flat, not round and there is a square-ish housing at the back end. The PCB has only two pads/through holes, not three, to which the mounts can be soldered (not counting the pad for the center pin conductor). The flat tabs do not readily fit into the holes on the PCP.  If they did fit, the foremost mount and the square part of the housing extend beyond the front edge of the BCB board so that the front panel or side piece that is notched for the BNC's looks like it might have gap between it and top(front panel). If I were to bend the mounting tabs flat, like feet, it still protrudes too far in front of the PCB to mount the front or top side of the case. I could slide t back in this case but, there would be less solder pad to attach to making a weaker connection.

So, before I go to a bigger hammer and make it work (or see if I can order a different style), has anyone else had the issue or have a solution? Or Just press (hard) the parts in place and it will all line up in the end? I've searched the messages and not found this discussed so I assume I'm missing something obvious or just not trusting (or understanding) the instructions.

I didn't see a subgroup for this question.  The link on the 4s Tuner page goes to the non-existent Yahoo Groups 4s Tuner page.

Thank you for any assistance.

Congratulations John! That sure beats the one and only prize I ever won at a hamfest! I attended the Catawba Valley Hamfest in Morganton, (Burke County), NC several years ago and they have a net on 10 meters and 40 meters SSB called The Grit Net , check out their website and in particular The Grit Poem written by William Faulkner, KS4AA. Well, the prize awarded by them was a one-year supply of grits and that's what I won in one of the drawings! LOL!

I just wanted to drop a note to confirm the receipt of the 80 meter low pass filter kit.  This is the first hamfest prize I have received in my ham career out of the many hamest I have attended in person or virtually.

I also wish to take a moment to thank the folks who organized, sponsored and conducted the OzarkCon Virtual Hamfest.  I finally got to put faces with call signs I have worked or interacted with while attending via Zoom.  I enjoyed the presentations through the event.  The only regret was not making contact with the K0N during the event.  Once again thanks and job well done to all!
