You may have a huge cheering section. I suggest taking this off line with email to Johnny, and helping him with an international shipping suggestion and its cost.  Perhaps he can quietly sell you one if you assist. 73 and 72.

Doing DX kit orders..

Geert Jan de Groot

Hi,

When trying to order, I see that "DX orders are suspended".
This is understandable - the developments are crazy, and still are.

However, in many countries the measures are tapering down, and I would like to lock down a Jumper kit while I can - if I wait, the kit will be sold out again.

Hence, my questions:
* Does 4SQRP consider a way of "kit reserving"?
* Is there a distributor in EU that ships the kits that I didn't find on the website?

73,

Geert Jan

SSS Results

John Lonigro

Well, we have mixed results for June.  The bad news is there were only 7 participants, and only one had double digit QSO points.  Not a very good showing.

The good news is we had two new participants for June: James (K5JFB) from Fort Worth, TX, and Karen (AG4CC) from Memphis, TN.  Welcome to James and Karen.  If they hadn't joined in, there would have been only 5 participants!  Maybe everyone is resting up for Field Day in a couple weeks.  Let's hope the July SSS is better attended and we can show James and Karen how much fun it can be when 10-15 people compete.

The winner for June is Carl (WB0CFF) with 10 QSO points. Congratulations Carl.  You will receive your June certificate shortly.  Carl is also in the lead for the year, as we reach the halfway point.  He has a cumulative score of 90 points, followed by Glenn (N4MJ) with 55 points and Chas (W2SH) with 51 points.  It's obvious one key to having a good cumulative score is participating every month.  None of these three has missed a month.  Nobody else can claim that.

Let's hope the showing is better for July.

First Day of Summer!

Larry Makoski

This coming Sunday, June 20th will officially be the First Day of Summer, and that means it's time to sign up for your official 2021 NJQRP Skeeter Hunt number. Join in on Sunday, August 15th for fun in one of the more popular QRP Operating Events of the Summer.

All you have to do is send an e-mail to w2ljqrp@..., and you'll receive an answer back with your very own Skeeter number. No, it's not necessary to have one to participate, but it sure adds to the fun! PLEASE NOTE THAT NUMBER REQUESTS WILL NOT BE HONORED BEFORE JUNE 20TH!

For all the details about the Sprint - please visit https://www.qsl.net/w2lj/

And to see the Roster for those who have signed up so far, please visit https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p12ygiXqoQuv0-akSSoPSSeMrzuGzVzG/view?usp=sharing

I'm sure you'll recognize a lot of the names and calls there. This year's bonus qualifier - there are two! Either post a photo OF your setup to social media on the day of the Hunt OR spell out the word "SKEETER" using letters from the call signs of people you have worked. You can claim one bonus or the other; but not both. See the Skeeter Hunt Webpage for full details.

See you all on the air on Sunday, August 15th!

Re: Antenna project parts

John - KK4ITX

Jim,

I have used the driveway markers to build a square loop that works well.  I have the 4ft units that allow for about 7ft diam.  I have seen the 6ft markers but haven’t figured out how to get them back to Florida.

A loop tuner kit from 4S would be a great project ??

I use the QRP loop tuner from MFJ and the biggest issue is the quick loss of the sweet spot. Vernier adjusters would be so much better.  My radiator is made from 4 conductor trailer hook up cable.  The unit setup takes about 2 minutes, really portable.  A camera tripod from a Flea Market ($4) works well.

Between kits and antennas my hobby life is complete !

It was in a mismarked bin, but I found the above link, and looks like the price would be $10
6 ft long by 7/8" solid fiberglass rod - great for a boom for a small VHF/UHF beam.

And don't overlook the $2.25 fiberglass driveway markers at the other Big Box

As is usually the case, I haven't checked qrpcontest.com yet to see how many participated in last night's Second Sunday Sprint.  I hope it's a large number.  Please get your score submitted by the end of today and I'll tabulate things when I have a chance tomorrow.  As usual, I'll post the results Wednesday morning.

Even arrl is offering a efhw kit for 40m and up. Myantennas also sells them. Qrp only recipes are out there. They can be erected other ways besides horizontal but the feed end does need to be elevated. Note those pricey cushcraft verticals are really efhw with traps.

Re: Mobile and home antenna?

We used the MFJ 1984mp end-fed half-wave antenna for field day 2 years ago and I was pretty impressed. Nothing beats wire in the air!
It was hung up high on the side of an RV, went to a 20" telescoping pole in the middle and about 15' high at the far end. It tuned up great on all the HF bands except 30 meters. About 15' of coax to the radio.
Its not one of those "fancy super duper pack-up miracle" antennas, but at 80 bucks a piece you could leave the one up at home and have another stashed in the RV.

Of course, if the RV is parked in your driveway, you can set your shack
up in it, including the antenna outside. When it is time to travel
everything is already aboard.

If you can sufficiently hide your home antenna, you won't want to be
frequently moving it. An efhw sized for 40m would work nicely, they can
be oriented various ways, but of course needs 60 some feet total. Might
be preferable by neighbors to RV antenna if it stayed in your driveway.
So I am thinking 2 different antennas.

And don’t forget the old HOA/mobile trick, a mobile antenna on your car parked in the driveway.  It’s portable and I have never heard of a HOA rule against it. A screwdriver antenna on a car rear bumper or even a triple magmount works well. The larger the car the bigger the ground plane or run a wire from the frame and unroll it out of the trunk to whatever length you need. This works in National or State parks where you can’t use a tree or put a stake in the ground. You can even run a control wire along with the coax to your operating position (garage or lenai).

I understand the limits but I am not a contester or DX seeker...I am casual "ham."

What are some suggestions for a 20/40 that might do the trick and not be hard to move back and forth? The moving would only be two or three times a month.
