GE Larry et al,

A finger tapper sure is a lot of fun, congrats on your purchase.  I've played with them, liked the action, and  one resides in my /P box for backup or a change of pace.   Here's some notes on a homebrew version.

I just received my new "Fingertip tapper". It's a wonderful little key that you tap with two fingers. It's the size of a credit card with a 30" wire and a 1/8th" sterio plug on it. It's from NJQRP Club and for $29.00 you can't go wrong. It comes in several colors and has your name and call sign on it. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

Sunday Sprint

Walter - K5EST

Even if your CW is like a screen door on a submarine, have no fear we will do our best to make a QSO with you. Join in the fun.......

4State QRP 2nd Sunday Sprints

July 14th at 7 to 9 PM (cdst)

any mode and band, except WARC & 60 mtrs, no NCS, 5 watts maximum
output regardless of mode. The Sprint keeps the keys, mics, and
keyboards active and collect the valuable QSO contacts that are needed
to achieve the W25 awards.

 <http://www.4sqrp.com/ActivityRecognition.php>

Suggested calling idea is.....CQ 4S....and obtain the stations 4SQRP
number for W25 awards. Please stop by the 7.122 MHz club hang-out
frequency to allow the crystal bound stations to have fun, also! Also
some folks have not changed their Pig Rig from 7.030.7 MHz. Probably staying around QRP watering hole will yield many QSOs.

Exchange, RST and club member number or None if non-member.

There is more at stake than the W25 awards, the most QSO contacts
station by October 1st, 2013, wins  the club callsign WQ5RP for the
October 4x4 Sprint. (in case of a tie of QSOs, then we shall draw a
winner). With a massive multiplier attached, this may be the most
coveted contact in your logbook for the 4x4 Sprint!

Reporting is easy.....send me an email to

spike55@...

Put SPRINT in the subject line then in the text body, indicate your
number of QSO contacts and what mode.

......I will compile the total of entries and post them on the club
yahoo groups reflector!

CU in the Sprint!

Since we hope to be flying kites for antenna skyhooks, would you have any idea of the prevailing wind at Brutus? From the charts it seems to be from the southwest.

Brutus is 22 miles SW of Pittsburg, KS at West Mineral. Restrooms are available in the museum building.  This is a really nice /P outing QTH -  wide open spaces, low man made noise, Brutus dominates the scenery, inexpensive camping, neat well kept parklike grounds, and a few medium sized trees.  There are 10 campsites with electricity for trailers or motor homes, and lots of area for tents.  Camping fees were $10/nite for tents and $15/night for campers.

More info here:

This year Walter and I are going fly kites to hoist antennas.  It will be a sight to see so bring your cameras..

Guess I was thinking its the 2nd weekend, 14th & 15th of September.

Honestly don't matter to me.

All we need is good winds for kite antenna flying and super propagation.

Will get it in the QRP Banner upcoming events as soon as its firmed up.

If you're a fan of fried chicken, you can't do better than Chicken Annie's (some will say Chicken Mary's!). When my mother-in-law was still with us (she lived in Parsons, KS), we always made it to Chicken Annie's Annex just south of Pittsburg any time we visited. Their onion rings are the best I've ever had!!!

Not sure if I can make it to Big Brutus but ya' never know!

Re: Brutus Dates

Hi Terry,

I would prefer it to be a week later, if possible. If it was a week
later, it would be on my weekend off, and it would be much nicer
to not have to take all most a weeks vacation (36 hours worth) to
get Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights off.

I haven't talked to Joe K0NEB lately, but if I can talk him in to going I suspect that he will want to have it on the date you have picked.. Will have to talk to him this weekend if he shows up at the QRP "lark in the Park" our group is having this weekend.
I have offered him the loan of one of my other tents and camping stuff.. so will have to see what he says this weekend. Unless he replies here... Joe?

Mike, NF0N , is not sure as of the last time we talked. He is getting a new knee as soon as he gets back from a week long bike ride across Wisconsin the 2nd week of August. He's not sure how well he will be feeling by the time it rolls around.

I will have to put in for vacation time soon, so the sooner the better as far as picking a date goes! Just have to know for sure.
