Boy!! That Norm knows how to rub salt in an open wound:-) Just wondering what brand of beer Norm was sipping down under!! I used to really enjoy a couple of ice cold "Foster's" after a day on the river in my canoe. One time we had a "world traveler" with us and he laughed an said an Aussie wouldn't be caught dead drinking that swill and then named a brand that they really enjoyed drinking, which I have long forgotten. But inquiring minds would like to know, did I fall for the advertisements or do the folks down under really like "Foster's". My old battle worn solo canoe is now retired like me and I can't remember the last cold one I enjoyed???

Terry,
Mondays and Thursdays work well for me if we decide on twice weekly morning nets. I vote for twice. I know many retired folks are as busy as when they worked if not more so. It might work out that folks would go for twice during the cold months and once in the months that are more conducive to getting out and around. Just my 2 cents worth! cu es 72, Bart W0IIT Pittsburg, KS

We need to decide if we want once or twice weekly morning nets. If twice
weekly, I suggest Monday and Thursday mornings. If once then Thursday seems to be a good choice. Comments? ---------------------------------- Back to the bench, Winter's too valuable to waste. I love this radio stuff ! 72 WA0ITP www.wa0itp.com www.4sqrp.com

Hello John. It may be best I deal with something more lightweight. The transformer, (Tamradio), came out of an nice stereo receiver, so I thought I could make it apply to a versatile bench PS. I think I got a picture of it in my 4state photos. I see what you mean, tho. The secondary windings are relatively small - appear to be 18-20 awg. The wires coming off the rectified and filtered board are 20 awg. Two fuses say 1A -125v at the ac input, and the other, 3A-125v, towards the dc end. Never able to find any data with prior searches. Just for gp's, I will add a photo of the circuit board bottom in my photos. Thanks for answering. I've studied into a bit, but know little, at this stage. Shawn, kf7yff

Just because it is a 400 Watt transformer doesn't mean you can draw 400 Watts from any of the secondary windings. Each winding has its own current rating, depending on the gauge of the wire used. If you can measure the gauge of the various secondary windings, you'll have a better idea what you can do with the transformer. 72, John AA0VE

Re: Carpet Static Cure

I remember when I was a kid and we got brand new carpet in the house. The next winter was a miserable one because we were shocking ourselves every time we touched something or someone. I remember we had a blue and green foil garland hung on the mantle of our fireplace, and if you built up a charge and touched it, it HURT! Though it was kind of fun having static fights with my sisters.
Luckily we bought a humidifier which helped until the carpet got worn down a bit. -- Tom Sevart N2UHC St. Paul, KS

Re: Carpet Static Cure
Mike Zedan <kn8zmich@...>
Keep the humidity up to the mid 40%, if you can. Just misting with a spray bottle isn't enough. A small living space may require over a gallon/day, if the dew point is low. If you have a humidifier, but don't know what your level is, then get a meter to determine where you are; They're cheap enough -
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=humidity+meter If you don't want to get into the above, you can make your own anti-static spray, using fabric softener: http://www.firehow.com/200912196243/how-to-make-anti-static-spray.html You can also buy products that are made for the purpose: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aanti%20static%20spray http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=anti+static+spray There are even anti-static products added to jet fuel to keep bad things from happening. The bottom line is that static electricity can range from a nuisance to a serious danger, and cutesy answers don't solve it. Mike, KN8Z --------------------------------------------

Re: Carpet Static Cure
Wayne Dillon
I have to say guys that the only real way to deal with the Carpet Static is to A: do away with the carpet, B: use a correctly grounded workstation and dissipative mat (dissipative to ground) at the workstation and C: try and keep the humidity between 30% and 70%. How do I know, well the ESD area at work (one complete room about 40 by 40 feet) is one of my areas of responsibility. The biggest deal is to use a dissipative as opposed to a completely conductive work surface. This is to bleed away the static charge from yourself as well as whatever you are working on. Also a fixture on the mat to connect a wrist strap to is necessary for complete protection. A totally conductive surface (conductive to ground) will surly remove the charge but may do it in such a way as to partially damage the component(S) you are trying to protect. Even with the above it is still possible to damage the components but it an order of magnitude less likely.
