| Thank you Rick,
|
| The real heroes in pulling together this run of Magic Boxes are Paul Smith
| N0NBD, Joy Dufrain NQ5R, and Johnny Matlock AC0BQ. Procuring and bagging the
| parts can be daunting tasks and these folks deserve a lot of credit for their
| perserverance and sacrificing their time.
|
| K8IQY answered many questions in the process also, and I mostly watched from
the
| sidelines while capable people did the heavy lifting. Many thanks to all of
| them.
|
| btw, stay tuned for more announcements from Four State.

Anyone in the Wichita area that will be going to or close to the Columbus, KS area anytime soon?  I have an oscilloscope here for Wayne Dillon, KC0PMH, that's really too heavy to ship and he wasn't able to make it up here over the Holidays as he'd originally planned.  I'd like him to have this so looking for a way to get it delivered if anyone can help.

Re: Warbler on the way

Definitely what Wayne said.  Make sure you DO NOT get one with the Prolific chip set, especially one made in China.  The Chinese illegally copied Prolific's chips and driver software.  Prolific changed their software so it would not work with the Chinese copies.

The FTDI chipset for the USB to RS-232 converters works perfectly.  Be sure to load the drivers on the computer though prior to plugging the USB cable in for the first time or the drivers will have to be "uninstalled" and reinstalled before it will work.  (Don't ask me how I know this -- when in doubt, read the book first!).

Hi Paul,
No reason why not, mine does. Get one with the FTDI (if I remember the nomenclature correctly) chip, NOT the Prolific Chip.
Enjoy.

Another one that works exceedingly well is made by IO Gear, it cost about $20, at work with multitudes of serial devices they always worked which can't be said for the chap units.

Hey Paul!

Speaking from a computer guy, a USB-Serial adapter should work, assuming you get the right kind. Best one would be one that uses the FTDI chip rather than the Prolific Chip. Something along the lines of this one should work great:

The FTDI-based USB to Serial converters have shown, in my experience, to be the best. A lot of the Prolific ones are actually Chinese knock-offs that the Windows drivers often have problems with.

Jim, and others that bought the HQRP power supply from Amazon:

I bought one of the units and I'm impressed with the value / price ratio. I have

not found a connector that will fit the output of the unit. I'm assuming that

one needs to cut off the existing connector plug. Will I find a coax cable

inside when I do that, or am I going to be dealing with two wires? I want

to have Anderson Power Poles as the final connector but I would

like to keep the molded connector in place and find suitable socket

if the cable is actually coaxial on the inside.

Happy New Year

WA0ITP

The Group is growing and continuing to be an influence in the QRP Community.
We're now over 700 members. Just a few short years ago who would have thought
that we would have that many members by 2014. Thanks to all for promoting and
participating in our activities.

Happy New Year everyone !

Hello,

I've just finished building an ez keyer from the kit. I have to say that it's the best made kit that I have built in a long time. We'll done to all those involved.

My next job is to learn how to use it - I've never had a keyer before!

Many thanks
