Rick Bennett

I managed to get the radio in my office turned on late in the net and was surprised to hear it was still going.  I copied WA0ITP, KD4OBQ, WR9H(?) and NE5DL(?).  Everyone was really solid here in Jefferson City, at or near 599.  Too many distractions to copy everything and get geared up to check in.  The rig is an ICOM 706MKIIG and I will have to pull out the instructions again to get the power turned down and get to the keyer settings.  And I will probably have to close the door to keep people away long enough to check in.

Anyway, good job on the net Terry.

| If you haven't looked at your calendar lately, you may not have noticed

| which means SECOND SUNDAY SPRINT (or SSS for short). Dust off those
| keys/paddles and get ready for 2 hours of sprint madness (or at least
| sprint mild excitement). Here are the details:
|
| Date/time: Sunday, 12 January, 2014, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm CST. Note: We
| can't use UTC because then it would be Monday! But for you DX stations
| out there, it is 13 January, 0100 - 0300Z.
|
| Bands: 160M through 10M, but never the WARC bands or 60M.
| Frequencies: The usual QRP frequencies - don't forget 7122 kHz and 3564 kHz.
| Power: 5 Watts maximum. 1 Watt or less (QRPp) is impressive, but not
| worth any extra credit.
| Mode: CW or sideband.
| Exchange: RST, SPC, and member number (members) or RST, SPC, power
| (non-members).
| Calling CQ: "CQ 4S" seems to be the standard.
|
| Reporting:
| This is where higher math is required. You need to add up your QSOs for
| each band and send them to me. We're assuming everyone is honest and
| I'll be darned if I'm going to try to cross-check QSOs. A typical report
| would be:
|
| Name: Fido
| Call: K9DOG
| 4SQRP number: 5280
| Results:
| 40M: 1 QSO (N0CAT)
| 80M: 1 QSO (N0CAT) (Same station, two different bands counts for 2
| contacts)
| Total: 2 QSOs (I told you higher math is required).
|
| When you've totaled your score, please send it to:
| secondsundaysprint@... <mailto:secondsundaysprint@...>. Put
| "Sprint" in the subject line, include your name, call and your 4SQRP
| member number. Send the results before Wednesday, January 15th. That
| means send them between 9:00 Sunday night and midnight Tuesday night.
| I'll tally the results and publish them on this reflector as soon as
| possible, probably Wednesday morning. Please don't send results
| Wednesday or later. This is not like Field Day. There are no
| multipliers or bonus points to compute or evidence to gather. I suggest
| you send in the results shortly after 9:00 pm Sunday so you don't forget.
|
| Please keep this email until after you've submitted your score for
| Sunday. I'll send brief reminders both Saturday and Sunday (but only if
| I remember). I'll also send a reminder about reporting your score.
| And, if all goes well, I'll report the results on Wednesday. The
| results will be for Sunday's sprint and cumulative scores since
| November. Remember, the person with the most contacts between November,
| 2013 and September, 2014 will be allowed to use the club's callsign,
| WQ5RP, for the 4X4 sprint in October, 2014.
|

Also answering Wayne's CQs and invitational QNIs several times was KF7WNS.  He was 549 here, but Wayne never could copy him, though once uttering "agn".  I had already signed with Wayne and elected not to complicate things with a late QSP offer.

After Wayne QRT'd, I gave KF7WNS a shout.  He replied giving me 449.  I gave him 549, but that turns out to be a bit exaggerated because in later exchanges I addressed him as Marty, and now QRZ tells me it should have been Gary; his QTH is OR.  He was also running 5W to an inverted V up 35'.  A glance at his QRZ listing will show that he is a serious builder and QRPer; certainly a logical candidate for 4SQRP membership.  Although QRZ shows no e-mail address, I'll send him a QSL card.

Tonites 40m Net(s)

I rather suspect that Terry will have a much better response in the morning than I will this evening. That's just the way it is at this time of year, it will get better as spring approaches. I wish I could join y'all on the Thursday morning nets but my boss insists that I be at work and that that I be about my duties! Whatta guy...
Have fun tomorrow AM. I'll see what happens on the early net as it may not be worth running the late net, keep an eye on QRPSpots and the e-mail, I'll post my intentions after the early net. It would seem that the later it gets the longer the band goes, oh well... I see from the news that there was a large flare, I also wonder how this will affect performance of the band.
God Bless all and stay safe/warm/operating.

Hey Jeremy,

Try 18095 (17 meters) early in the morning and again at 9 AM to 10 AM........I've
been working some Spainish and Swedish stations..........have to admit however
that I tweaked the FT450D up to 80 watts to get a 55N but worked em! My antenna
was a SteppIR vertical with 20+radials in the ground.
