May want to check out the 10-10 SSB contest this weekend. I hope 10 is open. I can sometimes make a contact there with my short wire antenna. Technically a long wire but doesn't seem right to call something that short a long wire.

Hey OMs.......

Let's make this a CW day on 7122?

Oh......and here are your three puns for the day:

1. I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.
2. I didn't like my beard at first. Then it grew on me.
3. I stayed up all night to see where the sun went. Then it dawned on me.

John, thanks a bunch and all or any i forgot to mention already, i have to put up a resonant ant, gathering stuff for it, i built my last 40 meter over 40yrs ago ! hahaha, i was trying to listen with a ,"Hillbilly Antenna ", i threw up, and could not here the net on 7122 tonight , will try again next thursday morning. I did make out a CW CQ from WA5RES ,from Ok, my first copy on CW in as many years ! I still have to practice my CW ,what a gas though ! This little Argo Ten tec 556 has a good receiver i was surprised in such a small package . Yes i can't wait to start some kits, i got one before i knew about this group the ZM-2 Emtech Tuner, but will order more kits when i finish it soon. I am so glad i got my Ticket again, I was interested in QRP as a teen but did not take advantage in those days. Makes more sense and what a challenge in these Sunspot  conditions . Today i did hear some on 40m before dark. 73s ,AJ KF5ZYB

Hi Todd,

That's my take on it. The article mentions that we might have built one 50 years ago. Ahem..it might have been longer than that for some of us! And yes they were putting Quaker Oats in those cardboard coil forms that long ago <evil grin>. For me...getting the 'crystal' was the hard part. I predate easy availability of solid state diodes. My father came from work late one day and had something special in his lunch box for me.

Are you going to enter one in the FDIM affair?

Subject: [nogaqrp] 2014 Four Days In May - Homebrew Contest Announced

This is to announce the Homebrew Contest categories for
the Four Days In May (www.qrparci.org/fdim  ) in Dayton.
This will be held Friday night (May 16) and is FREE!  We will
have the usual five categories for you to enter:

  1. All Homebrew (Xcvr,Xmtr,Rcvr)
  2. Modified Kit (Xcvr,Xmtr,Rcvr)
  3. Station accessories (homebrew or modified kit)
  4. Test Equipment (homebrew or modified kit)
  5. Antennas  (Portable, Loops, Ferrite based, etc)
  6. 2014 Special Category  - see below....
  7. TenTec Rebel - separate category for Rebel enthusiasts
  8. Best of show
Of course the BEST OF SHOW is not an equipment
category but simply a voting category.  All voting is the "People's
Choice" method.  Last year,(and this year too) entrants
will be seated behind their entry (if they so chose) and
will answer questions in order to sway  the voters to
their project, if you will!  Note that all entries
must be either all homebrew or a modified kit.  Stock kits
are not eligible for entry BUT may be placed on display at
"show and tell"  and club tables around the room.

Now for the 2014 SPECIAL CATEGORY - CRYSTAL SETS!
We think this will be an exciting category and draw a
lot of attention.  These sets may be ones you build 50
years ago or just for this event.  As in all the categories
some of the criteria to consider are:
A. Quality of construction
B. Uniqueness
C. Cleverness
D. Capability
E. Engineering/Circuit design
But in the end, it's just what will impress the viewers!

So invite your friends to attend, vote and even enter
this SPECIAL CATEGORY.  So get out those Oatmeal Boxes
and soldering irons.  We'd like to have a hundred entries
in all categories.   Remember, if you don’t want to enter
the contest, we'd like all attendees to bring your
latest project and display it for Show & Tell.

Yes, we will also have club tables - we had 13 last year
so stay tuned for that info.  All this and more at
this year's FDIM - Friday Night - Club Night
and Construction Contest affair.

Hey Terry, I could barely hear you but you would pop up and I would hear "Z" which was actually for AE5ZZ, so I must have caused some QRM. Sorry!

I have not bend on CW net for years so I don't know what the net etiquette is for checkins? Also, if I can't hear net control what should I do?

This morning I waited till I heard the station sign "K" and I popped in my call? Was this ok??? Please set me straight.

I have recently developed an S9 noise level, the KX3 NB and NL helps some but I have to get to the bottom of it!

Anyway it was great fun! See you at Ozarkcom!
