QRP DXCC! Another one - 10 bands!

ka0ncr

Way to go RC!  Congratulations!

All that in 2 years!  Thats a lot of work!
---

Speaking of a lot of work, I saw another one while surfing on another list that took a little longer.. 30 years to be exact. but it is a first for QRP!  Quite the milestone!

Heres a copy of the text from Wayne N6KR's message on the Elecraft list..
--------------
Hi all,

I wanted to acknowledge what is, to the best of my knowledge, a unique feat by Don Bush, WA2TPU. He has achieved DXCC (over 100 countries worked) on every ham band from 160-6 meters, excluding 60 meters, running 5 watts or less for all QSOs. He used a mix of modes, and 100% natural power (off the grid, in other words). He used a variety of transceivers.

Don was issued the only 10-band QRP DXCC certificate in the history of QRP ARCI on April 4th, 2014. (In fact he was also issued the only 8- and 9-band QRP DXCC certificates a couple of months earlier. I'm not sure if 11 bands is even possible, but I'm sure he'd go for it :)

It takes a lot of persistence to pull this off. Don did it over about 30 years, using various hand-built log-periodics, Yagis, quads, delta loops, Sterba curtains, phased verticals, rhombics, etc. I'm hoping to see his station someday.

Thanks, Don, for giving a lot of us something to aspire to!
-------

Like Johnny says,  QRP WORKS!

100 Countries on either  6M or 160 with QRO would be a big accomplishment in my book, to
do it with QRP and on 10 BANDS! wow!   (I wonder if he has an XYL, and what she thinks of it!)

Re: Anderson Powerpole Connectors

For the 45 Amp contacts I think it is easier if you lightly tin both the wire and the contact first. Then bend the tabs on the contact around the wire and reflow the solder on both pieces.

Be careful when soldering any of the sizes. If you get solder out on the contact area itself sometimes they will not make reliable connections or will not mechanically lock together well.

I'm shifting my power supply connectors to powerpoles, soldering not crimping, using 30 amp connectors so far with good success. Would like to use some 45 amp connectors for connecting battery banks to rigrunner junction box, is it possible to solder say 10 gauge wire to the 45 amp connectors? Any advice and hints in general would be appreciated. Also gearing up for powering radios in an emergency comm trailer and plan to use power poles as radios may not be permanently installed since the trailer will be out in the weather, and connections need to be as foolproof as possible. Thanks in advance.

I do that with the bigger connectors. I also drill a hole in the barrel of the terminal right over the seam. I feed the solder into the barrel through that hole. It makes it a lot easier to solder than trying feed it in from the end.

There's still time - ends Sunday. http://www.13colonies.info/

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but Brutus is always held the second full weekend of September, at least according to my knowledge.  So for this year, that would be Sept 12/13/14 (Fri/Sat/Sun).
