I listened and heard nothing. W1AW code practice was only S3 but the noise level was S3 with Noise peaks from thunder storms at S5. Just no propagation.
40 is down also with S7 noise and W1AW at S8. So no qsos tonight. Well, I worked SV1 on 20 and 579 2 way but not much else.
Early bed and early rise maybe catch the grey line. Sure hope propagation gets a bit better.

There are some technical articles on the Bencher/Butternut web site
that I found to be very handy in the installation of the HF9V titled
Dirty Little Secrets. They helped.
Thanks for the reminder, Robert. DX Engineering also offers a very
good writeup on installation of the Hustler/New-Tronics 6BTV that has
good info applicable to other verticals as well. 60 pages, about 5.5
MB; the latest version I could find was the K version here:

http://static.dxengineering.com/global/images/instructions/dxe-btv-inst-ins.pdf

http://www.dxengineering.com/parts/hsr-6btv/media/instructions/

DXE sells some amazing accessories but I plan to do my 6BTV install
on the cheap. So far the most promising idea for the radial plate
I've seen came from, I think, QRP-ARCI Idea Exchange: kitchen sink
metal strainer.

Re: KC5WA QRP DXCC

Robert 'RC' Conley <rc.kc5wa@...>

Thanks to all that responded and those that asked after the antenna system and terrain. You are able too see it on QRZ. COM or at <http;//www.kc5wa.net>. Check the map at QRZ.COM and you see that the QTH location is a very old river bottom of the OUACHITA RIVER. In fact the river's levee is just behind the levee service road. The back yard was scalpped one October then the radials were laid out on top of the grass from the center of the yard to the fence line and staples from DX ENGINEERING were spaced every foot on the length of the radials. Four radials on in each direction NE, SE, SW and NW are 50' in length. The range in length from 12' at the shortest to 50' longest. Then after the radials were laid and the grass grew back from spring growth you could not see the radials anywhere except at the decorated center. The grass had pulled them down. I never had issues with the lawn mower snatching the wires or staples.  There are some technical articles on the Bencher/Butternut web site that I found to be very handy in the installation of the HF9V titled Dirty Little Secrets. They helped.

All that in 2 years! Thats a lot of work!

Speaking of a lot of work, I saw another one while surfing on another
list that took a little longer.. 30 years to be exact. but it is a
first for QRP! Quite the milestone!

Heres a copy of the text from Wayne N6KR's message on the Elecraft list..
--------------
Hi all,

I wanted to acknowledge what is, to the best of my knowledge, a unique
feat by Don Bush, WA2TPU. He has achieved DXCC (over 100 countries
worked) on every ham band from 160-6 meters, excluding 60 meters,
running 5 watts or less for all QSOs. He used a mix of modes, and 100%
natural power (off the grid, in other words). He used a variety of
transceivers.

Don was issued the only 10-band QRP DXCC certificate in the history of
QRP ARCI on April 4th, 2014. (In fact he was also issued the only 8-
and 9-band QRP DXCC certificates a couple of months earlier. I'm not
sure if 11 bands is even possible, but I'm sure he'd go for it :)

It takes a lot of persistence to pull this off. Don did it over about
30 years, using various hand-built log-periodics, Yagis, quads, delta
loops, Sterba curtains, phased verticals, rhombics, etc. I'm hoping to
see his station someday.

Thanks, Don, for giving a lot of us something to aspire to!
-------

Like Johnny says, QRP WORKS!

100 Countries on either 6M or 160 with QRO would be a big
accomplishment in my book, to
do it with QRP and on 10 BANDS! wow! (I wonder if he has an XYL, and
what she thinks of it!)

73 - Arnie KA0NCR

---In 4s qrp@..., wrote :

I just received word that one of our own, RC Conley, KC5WA, has achieved
ARRL's coveted QRP DXCC award.

Per RC, "All the contacts were CW and in the last two years. Rigs used
were an Elecraft K2/10 or a K3/10 and a ground mounted Butternut HF9V
w/160 coil sitting on 700' of 14 ga wire in 26 radials. The antenna is
in a 50' X 50' back yard. Proof that you need not be a BIG GUN"

Congratulation RC!
