I Have QRM I Can't Hear ( Off Subject )

Sam Neal

Hello,

I have a two tube florescent ( T32, 44 inches long ) light hanging above my
operating desk. No problems from the lights. I have a little MFJ field
strength meter mounted near the radio(s) for tuning up the QRP rigs. To pick
up sufficient signal, I had to add a couple of test clip leads to the field
strength meter to make it's " antenna " larger and didn't have anything to
hang them from and saw the florescent light above and wrapped one turn around
the light and clipped the lead on to it's-self.

I noticed that I was getting a field strength reading even when I wasn't
transmitting and disconnecting the wire around the florescent tube brought the
meter to zero. Any thoughts? Apparently the RF is in some range other than
HF/6/2 meters.

Sam Neal N5AF

I heard Sam N5AF with his 500 mw at 539 and Randy KB4QQJ was 559 here in Tulsa but didn't hear Wayne KC0PMH. Heard some weak code before Sam and Randy that was likely W2SH but way too weak to copy.
Since I couldn't hear Wayne, didn't try to check in. Maybe next week!

Well despite a wonky RF patch lead we made a few contacts, once again the prop princess seemed to have reinstated her duct from here to NC, Randy was booming in with Sam and Chas also fair considering the QRN/M.
Here are the results:

N5AF Sam TX
KB4QQJ Randy NC
Late Net
W2SH Chas NJ

Well Johnny,

That station might have been me trying to QNI at 0120Z.  You were RST 239 in NJ, but remember that I've got an hour's more darkness than you.

My experience has been that 80m really wakes up around the autumnal equinox and that is only slightly more than a fortnight away.

I remember once in mid-September being at a real quiet location on a lake in NH.  I was working 80m QRP to a dipole hung at 45'.  I tied the feeders together and ran it through an antenna tuner as a top-loaded vertical.  In a half-hour period my 5W got QSOs with NM and DX to F.

Hey, here is some info on the event... it is actually a two day thing, with camping, but swinging by for the "tailgate hamfest" and maybe some portable operating, as well as meeting the Four State QRP Group should be fun.

I don't know if I will have the KX1 running soon enough, but maybe I can try to get the Norcal 40a qrp rig going in time. If I remember correctly, everything was working on the radio, except that I wasn't sure what the frequency range was (and if it was within my privileges).

Just thought I would say Hello and ask if anyone knows where I might obtain a crystal that falls between 14.1700 and 14.2400 Mhz? It is for a 10 Meter DSB QRP project I am now in the process of building.

I have tried most of the usual sources but to no avail. Any help, advice or suggestions on this one would be greatly appreciated.

                                   Thanks   Ian K3HQL
