Congratulations Wayne!

I worked all 50 too but - but - I have about 5 I have not confirmed yet.
Short confirming a few on LoTW and short on a different few on eQSL.
They are different ones of course! Guess I'll try to send out QSL cards again to get confirmation.

Fun stuff.

Wayne,

Congratulations!  Make sure to file for the ARCI 50 States award, it's much nicer than the ARRL's WAS Award.  I applied for the ARRL award and paid the extra $$$$ for the CW and QRP endorsements.  They put "All CW" and "All QRP" in a tiny font on the side that you almost have to look for it to see it. I was hugely disappointed.  The ARCI award is much, much nicer and it comes from an organization of your peers, to boot.

And no QSLs are needed, Just have two Hams sign off on your log summary and you're good to go.

FOX HUNT APPS Please?

Dale Putnam

The Game Warden is watchin us... and he isn't plumb pleased just yet...
But then.. the problem is this.. he doesn't want to let anyone that is planning to have
the most fun in 90 minutes on the radio... get passed over.. when it is so unnecessary.
So.. let's appease him.. and please us!!!  (I like that part)

Put your FOX apps in.. please.. that will allow the Game Warden to be appeased.. and for each of us
to have fun.. during the fastest 90 minutes on the radio ever!!

or has been heard.. here and there....

Y'all come, y'er?

and if you don't feel experienced enough to do it.... (really).. 20wpm isn't that fast...
and there isn't any easier way to learn, than to jump in and get wet.
OR.. if you want.. just jump in as a hound.. and grab pelts.. then you will be ready next summer or next winter....

Have a great day,

Re: Update on QRPometer adventure

Good Luck with everything, Don!  I wish I wasn’t on-call this weekend – I would happily meet you half way and bring my finished and functional QRP-ometer.  But I can’t range more than an hour from home on my on-call weekends!  Seems like a lot of people have had problems with the calibration – I can remember a few emails regarding that from time to time.

Rich, if another functional one for comparison purposes is needed for troubleshooting, I’ll be happy to loan mine to use for the cause.  I rarely use it anyway – I’ve got 2 LDG auto-tuners that do the job quite nicely for my gear.

If you have been following this subject, skip to next paragraph. I'm
trying very hard to get my QRPometer kit working correctly. It's needed
for a trip and I'm running out of time.

I just got done going over all solder joints. They all appeared OK, but
touched every one up with soldering iron. I did have a cold solder
joint for the wire attaching to the LCD display, it was the IN-
connection...it now looks bright and shiny.

Trying RF into the transmitter connector (a couple watts), I was now
able to adjust the pot on the back of the LCD display as high as 0.92 --
it will adjust downward from that point.

Anyone have an idea of where to look now? I'm pretty sure I have all
the resistors (minus the 3 that are not supposed to be in yet) correct
as I measured each one with ohmmeter before installing. Did anyone else
have this problem?

Re: Last minute Murphy woes

Don,

Sorry about your misadventures! After several hundred QRPometers, all of a sudden, I am getting reports (three now) of the same problem that you are encountering.  As a matter of factor, I have one (for a week) on the bench (kitchen table) that I have been trying to identify the problem. I have a working one that I'm doing a side by side with some measurements. To me, it seems like a bad regulator...replaced but didn't fix. Because of the way it is mounted, hard to tell that you have a good install.  Measuring resistance on my good unit from ground to U1-2 I get about 550K. On the bad unit I get much higher.

Compared all components and all ICs and regulator are the same manufacturer, altho not the same lot. Panel meter terminal readings should read Vin+ Vin- both 0V (no TX input) to ground.  Reading between Batt- and Batt+ should read ~ 9V.

That's about as much help as I can muster.  Over 50 Green boards have been built without a problem. I doubt I'll have an answer by morning, but if I stumble on it, I'll let you know.

Sorry things haven't come together like they are supposed to...in the end things work out. Let's hope and pray they do this time, too.

73,
Rich K8MEG

Re: Last minute Murphy woes

Hi Shawn (and others),

Nope, tracking still just says left Evansville, Indiana about 24 hours ago.

Spent most of morning assembling my kit, in calibration stage right now. Got the 5.00 vdc adjusted OK, but feeding a few watts rf into it as per instructions and trying to adjust for LCD meter reading of 1.0 is no good. I'm getting a minus reading of roughly -6 and it is not adjustable over very much of a range. Appears maybe got a part failure or bad solder joint. If anyone reading this have hints, especially those who have figured out the circuit, I'd welcome it ASAP. Will be spending this evening troubleshooting. Got probably one more day to get everything right.

I'll sure be glad when all is worked out before flight time and I can then sit back and try to catch up on sleep. All equipment will be packed in either checked or carry on. Had no trouble 3 years ago with ham equipment.

For the CW SS, I'll not be operating in it Nov 1-2, may retreat to 30 meters or try SSB or PSK31 or other digital modes that period. Will post info on this reflector.
