What day are the Wednesday Night Nets on?

FOX: in the 80 acre wood Thurs pm

Dale Putnam

In the 80 acre wood Thurs evening (local) 7pm MT, the FOXHUNT proudly ( I hope, that's true)
presents.... N8SS in MI and WC7S in Wy.. as the FOX during the fastest 90 min in radio.

I'll be slinking about.. being very Wy-LEE.. and Western.. as your Wy-LEE Western Fox.. somewhere
in the 80 acre wood...  (hint- between the two sagebrush marked 3550 and 3570)
I will be handing out my pelts freely.. to those that can find me...  and make a fair shot from high atop that
rise.. just 1 or 2 thousand steps above... or below... if you don't get on top of each other.. that makes for a
much cleaner shot.
Being in the Far West.. where the pavement ends and the West Begins.. makes it plumb easy to use a K2 at
5 watts and a 280ft centerfed at 50 ft, as a lasso to rope the lucky hounds, and hand out pelts.
Listen hard for:  UR CALL (RST) WY LEE 5w ...   When the Prop Princess tires of the action, and the pack thins out,
I will be working simplex as noted by my calls:  "FOX WC7S" not the "FOX WC7S UP" used earlier in the hunt.

This should prove to be a blast!!! Let's have a whole saddle bag full of fun, before the WWF (Wy-LEE Western Fox rides off into the
sunset..... figuratively speaking... cause the sun done went away already by then)

Have a great day,

Darryl,

Why don't you try to hook them up back to back anyway. Put some power into them and see what the loss is. I'd really like to know.

Answers, don't think they are still made, at least not from the
manufacturer, I bought them off a trading web site, $35, unused by two
previous owners. I have attached them to my 40 meter sloper fed with
300 ohm twin lead, and ran the power up in steps to 100 watts with no
smoke or heat. Didn't run them long, but did run them. Obviously a
backpacker's delight, small, light, sealed, stainless hardware, so
they are keepers.

Good turnout for the late net tonite. Jim, KC0DD, was a great help in
catching some relaying stations on this one - think the band had
definately "gone long" at this point!

KC0DD - Jim - Drakesville, IA
KA0NCR - Arnie - Fremont, NE
W8BVI - Glenn - Cedarville, OH (relay via KC0DD)
N2UHC - Tom - St. Paul, KS (relay via KC0DD)

Not surprised I couldn't hear Tom - he's only about 30-40 miles away
from me as the crow flies.

I think signals were a little weaker here on the late net tonite, so
the early one might be better for signal strengths. Definately also
think having people relaying is a good thing - maybe even have someone
else try calling for checkins too. I'll keep doing the early and late
nets for a few more weeks and see how it goes.

Am I looking at the wrong notes I took last night during the 1930 net?  I have down N4DAI at 53, W9RMA at 59 and W3EN at 45.  I could hear but not make contact.

This is fun...look forward to next week.

Re: Miniature Baluns

It is extremely easy and inexpensive to make using a BN 43-202 binocular core. Here's how to do it from the great Phil Salas, AD5X http://www.radiodan.com/ad5x/images/Articles/K5OORbalun.pdf Ignore the switch if you only want one ratio. Here's another good source of info
http://betterqrp.com/kits/ and here is the definitive article (IMHO) on constructing a toroidal balun. http://www.njqrp.org/balun/Balun%20Manual%20-%20final.pdf

I've built and used both styles and have had good luck with them.

Good luck and have fun.

Re: Miniature Baluns

John Lonigro

I didn't find them either.  I was curious about the price.

Also, people are talking about using them for 100 or 350 Watts.  The data sheet calls them "QRP/Receiving Baluns".  I can't imagine them called that and still being rated at 100+ Watts.  There's a reason they are able to be made so small.
