GM Terry,

I am getting soooooooo dumb:-( Totally forgot it. David, my cw buddy, had to remove the ground rod and wire and put the screen back on the window in his basement apartment. The qrm/qrn was bad to begin with and removing the gnd did him in completely. So our daily cw sked is kaput. We met on 2 meters simplex(I don’t do repeaters except in dire emergency) to make arrangements and we will now switch to 2 meter CW. Both of us will be running FT-817s using their little rubber ducky antennas. Today I used the little Chinese duel band handie talkie with an extended antenna. I was full quieting with David. The little rig worked like a charm and to my surprise in didn’t get hot. We must of chatted for at least 30 minutes—it felt very strange to be vocalizing my call sign.

I am going to try to play in the SSS but every time I make plans to do that something or someone comes up and spoils my attempt.

OMG, Bill has such a signal here in the Pitts, I mean LOUD!!!! As the CB crowd used to say, strong as garlic!!! I don’t know if he uses the Alex loop for the net or not. How about his talent at painting?

Nice group this morning Darryl was the warmest at 48F and I was the coldest at 27F.  Bill was booming in and signals were quite good this morning.  I see the A index is down from the last coupla days, that surely helped.  The band is noisy here, S5-S7, but copy was no problem.

Thanks everyone, cu next week.   Don't forget the Second Sunday Sprint this weekend, 7 - 9 pm.  AA0VE sent out a note this morning with the rules.

Second Sunday Sprint

John Lonigro

This coming Sunday is the 2nd Sunday of the month, which means it's time for the "SECOND SUNDAY SPRINT".

Here are the details, which should be familiar to all by now:

Date/time: Sunday, 14 Dec, 2014, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm CST (0100 - 0300Z Monday).
Bands: 160M through 10M, no WARC bands or 60M.
Frequencies: The usual QRP watering holes - don't forget 7122 kHz and 3564 kHz.
Power: 5 Watts maximum.
Mode: CW or sideband.
Exchange: RST, SPC, and member number (members) or RST, SPC, power (non-members).
Calling CQ: "CQ 4S" recommended.

Note: Contacts with the same station on different bands are allowed. The sideband and CW portions of a band count as the same band (change from last year, to better align with the 4x4 contest rules). This is the only change from last year's rules.

Reporting:
Add up your QSOs for each band/mode and send them to me.

With that in mind, a typical report would be:

Name: Sparky
Call: K9MUT
QTH: Branson, MO
4SQRP number: 5280
Results:
40M: 3 QSOs
80M: 6 QSOs
Total: 9 QSOs

You do not need to list the stations contacted or mode. But if you make an exotic contact, you might as well brag about it in an optional bragging section at the bottom of your submittal. I'll include comments when I report the scores (no extra credit).

When you've totaled your score, please send it to: secondsundaysprint@.... Put "Sprint" in the subject line. Send the results by Tuesday evening. I'll tally everything and publish them on this reflector as soon as possible. I suggest you send them in shortly after 9:00 pm Sunday so you don't forget. If you see a mistake or omission when I publish the results, let me know and I'll fix it.

Keep this email until after you've submitted your score for Sunday. Remember, the person with the most SSS contacts between November, 2014 and September, 2015 will be allowed to use the club's callsign, WQ5RP, for the 4X4 sprint in October, 2015.

The SSS rules are posted on the 4SQRP website, under "4SQRP On Air Activities", just in case you delete this email.

72 and good luck in the contest,

John AA0VE

Here in NJ I heard a few bits and pieces of the 80m net, but nothing good enough to warrant pushing the key.

Well it's not a very good report,
I heard AE5ZZ trying to check in but I couldn't pull out his info, only the call.
I have a s6 Qrn level on 80 tonight.
I hope its atmospheric not man made near in my shack!
Thanks for the try,

I thought I heard a couple of dits and dahs, but nothing resembling a CQ.  Condx on the early net were OK and no better, so cancelling the later effort made good sense.

Tonight's 40m net report

Wayne Dillon

Well not a total bust, Chas - W2SH made it in at a pretty good signal but that was it. Still, even if just one then the effort is worth it. On a personal note, trawling down the lower end of '40 I managed a qso with KD2E which pushed me to my SKCC Tx2 claim. Seems KS to NJ was the conduit this evening!
