Re: Dummy?

Hi Doc,
Any 50 Ohm NON INDUCTIVE resistor that will handle the wattage. Smaller carbon film resistors in parallel will work, for instance, a couple of 100 ohm 1 watt resistors in parallel will show 50 ohms and the wattage dissipation is 2 watts.
Does this help?

Re: Dummy?

Martin Huyett <huyettmeh@...>

I suggest soldering two 100 ohm 1 watt resistors, or four 200 ohm1/2  watt resistors in parallel to a connector. That will give you 2 watts of dissipation which will be adequate for 5 watts power for a few seconds or minutes. If you need more power simply use two 100 ohm 2 watt or four 200 ohm 1 watt resisters to get four or so watts of power. Keep the leads reasonably short and it will work well on almost any frequency.

Of course if you have a 2 to 5 watt 47 or 50 ohm resistor just use it! Also be sure the resistors are carbon and NOT wire wound as the wire would ones will have some inductance which may mess up things on certain frequencies.

A number 47 incandescent indicator light bulb.  I used to connect one of these to a PL-259 and use on CB radios as a dummy load.

Good afternoon all,
The 2015 Ozarkcon registration is now open. The Ozarkcon will be held April 10 and 11 at the Stonecastle Hotel in Branson Mo. We have a GREAT line up of speakers and a cool kit for the kit building session. The hotel room block rate is 10 dollars less than last year. Good deal huh? The kit building session will be a Low Pass Filter and testing to insure all those little rigs meet specs. The conference should be a blast, the food will be good including a complementary lunch on Saturday. Make plans to attend you will have a great time.
Go to these links for more information.

The Digikey speaker# 102-2200-ND, described in the manual,  provides an additional big volume boost if you need more.  I had to use the onboard volume control to back mine down.  Great sound.

Glad you like the keyer.

The HamCan is a fun little rig.  Let us know when you'll be on with it, and we'll have a QSO.   If you havn't discovered it, the rig does have a unique keying requirement due to the way the keying jack is configured.  For use with the EZKeyer III (or any other keyer) pse use the easy to build keying relay circuit on this page.  http://www.4sqrp.com/kits/HamCan/hamcanmanual.pdf   It will save lots of angst.

Thank you for the kind thoughts and notes.

We lost our very close companion yesterday. She was a 4 year old AussieShepard-Lab that had become so
much a part of the family, with a super personality, and an abundance of unconditional love. Had grown up
with our now 13yr old, ate, played, studied, slept with him, and in her spare time from those, chase bunnies,
occasionally catching them, playing in the snow, running fox away from the chicken house, freezing/pointing at
the chickens and running with the horses, careful not to chase.. but to run with.
She would wake me up every morning at 5 am and insisted on saying goodbye to Betsy every day, by going to the
window to watch until the car was out of sight.
She was fine on Wed. Then Wed night about midnight she got sick, 5 times in an hour and half... seemingly improved and had drank some, about noon, she started dry heaves, by 4 she was weak, struggling to stand, we started to take her to the vet, she
was on the deck, convulsed, heart stopped, she collapsed and passed.
We are hanging tightly to the memories of her playing and talking to me, her enthusiasm for life, and her playful manners.
Bridgette, you will be missed, loved, and the memories will be treasured forever.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, and notes.

Have a great day,
