FDIM 2015 update
Rex Harper
Gangue,
I just finished updating the QRP-ARCI Buildathon registered builders list on my website: http://qrpme.com/?p=product&id=FB5 The room is packed but with the sliding start times, I hope it won't seem that way. I have kitted a few extra kits for pickup at FDIM but if you want one GAURENTEED, then sign up for the Buildathon and a kit (but NOT a seat) will be reserved for you. For those wanting to build one at home, I will be mailing them out on Monday so they should get to your QTH by Friday. I will attempt to get any orders sent in today into that batch of mailing. Three of the four building guides for the Buildathon kits are drafted and also posted to the web page. I'm working on the frequency counter now... Since I can't take my entire shop to FDIM, I will have to do a little triage on the stuff I have so that it will all fit into my little Ford Focus wagon. I will have Rockmites, some Tuna Tin kits and most of my home brew supplies... If you are looking for anything specific, please send me an 'ATTN FDIM' email and I'll try to respond ASAP to let you know if I can fill it. I'm collecting up a box of orders for those who have ordered stuff and requested an FDIM exchange. I have lots of unfinished pre-FDIM chores, so I'll get back to work but keep and ear out for email dings. Rex W1REX

Randy I'm the one who talked Dick into including 4 State in the data base however due to the limited info in the database on the website it only lists Call sign and Member Number. As for a certificate I have one from SKCC and NAQCC I would love to add 4SQRP to the collection. 73

I'll speak for Jim's batteries. I've got 4 I picked from him (or his buddy he brought along to Ozarkcon 2013, can't remember which) that are still going strong for me. The ones I have are 12V 17Ah batteries, and I charge them from my Astron PS with one of the KI0BK PwrGates - which also provides instant switchover if AC Mains go out. Jeremy, NQ0M

Re: TX project advice
Donald Kelly
Jon - Congratulations on building your DC receiver. Not many people build from scratch and even fewer build receivers.
Just a thought for future experimentation. You have “Experimental Methods in RF Design”. Later in the book you will find KK7B’s section on higher performance DC receivers. They are a lot of fun to build.
A good first transmitter design might include W7ZOI’s Universal QRP Transmitter. It is a 1 to 1.5W transmitter using very available parts. It can be a driver for a more powerful TX later on.
This is a good reproduction I found on the WEB. I could send you a copy of the chapter from “Solid State Design for the Radio Amateur”. It is a classic MOPA format that modernized the legendary designs like the 6AG7/6L6 transmitters many of us used as Novices.
http://www.qsl.net/k0kp/hbrew/qrp_sch.html
It is a limited transmitter but will teach you a lot about TX construction. I have used various power amplifiers over the years. I casually operated 1.5W with a DC receiver and a simple TX like this for over a year and logged 40 state and 3 foreign countries.
This is a 20W transmitter I built a few years ago. The basic driver is about 1W driving a 2SC1307. It is VXO and covers about 6KHz.

Good luck with your project.

Greetings Everyone,
I finally have my 40 meter DC receiver in band and working well and the helically wound vertical is all but done. While I want to tweak the AF amp and do some filtering my biggest concern is actually getting on the air before FD.
To this end, I need to build a transmitter. My specifications are... 40 meter, under 5 watts, simple design, commonly/currently available and inexpensive or easily manufactured parts, and now the kicker SSB/CW.
A tall order but hey, you guys, and gals, are the ones who would know. I am skilled in assembly but my EE/RF design skills are still in there infancy. Any suggestions in this area would be greatly appreciated. 72/ 73,

I would like to contact any members whose call ends in either DLB or FPR. I held W8DLB until I moved to Maryland and at that time I had to change my call to the "3" area, and I received W3FPR. I have since moved to NC which is "4" land but did not change my call - I am still W3FPR. 73, Don W3FPR

Don et All,
Dick, K2RFP has written a neat little program that will give you the member
number of several different clubs.
http://www.cwfun.org/zip/ and
look for 5-lookups-setup.zip.
Several other usable programs there as well and all freeware!!
