I see that WA8REI has joined the Group, thanks vy much Ken. I've known Ken for many years, going back to our early Polar Bear years. He is well known in QRP circles, is a contester, musician, and FB cw op. He attended OzarkCon 2015, and from all appearances had a great time, which included some SOTA activations. I hear him all over the bands, especially 20M, so give him a shout for a friendly QSO. Thanks to Chas, Paul and Wayne for encouraging him to join Four State.
Welcome aboard Ken, we're vy pleased to have you ! -- 72 WAØITP I love this radio stuff. www.wa0itp.com wa0itp@wa0itp.com

"Brutus Bash" is our fall field outing, get together, at the Big Brutus Historical site at West mineral Kansas. We camp out, eat, visit and play radio for a full weekend! It's held on September 11, 12& 13th. It's a very big old Coal Mining shovel that has turned into a historic site. Located about 15 miles or so west of Pittsburgh Kansas, then a few miles to the south. I think Mr. Bart Lawson is one of the founders, and Joe Porter may have been involved as well. Look it up on google, pack up a tent and come on down, it's a lot of fun!! Hope this description does it justice!! 72 Johnny AC0BQ

Re: Winding BalUns
Phil Anderson
Wayne,
I've been experimenting with winding my own summers and splitters. I see no problem with using solid wire, as long as the size of the wire and insulation is small enough for the no. of turns you are putting on your cores. I've been making my own Beverage antenna transformers. They call for 450 to 50 ohms. With that the trifilar wound cores work great for broad-band transformers. I use three different colors of coated wire & FT82-61 cores so I don't have to ohm them out once wound. To keep thinks tight and provide for some capacitance, I use a drill and twist the three colors together, then wind them on the core. Works slick. I could send you some pictures if you like. The trifilars are sometimes called transmission line transformers. We've been out of town a good bit this summer - mostly visiting in Oklahoma with grandkids, etc. Hope to get back on the net more regularly! Bands ought to be getting better as we get deeper into the fall. I've also started checking into the CWT (CWOPS) one hour contests each Wednesday to try to improve my code speed. It's beginning to help. 72, Unc Phil/w0xi

You are right.
I have been waiting for cooler weather to tweak my dipole, and get outside and play with a few other antennas I've been thinking about. K5DCM On 8/17/2015 3:00 PM, Tim McDonough

Re: This reflector is dead
Tim N9PUZ
I know that most of us don't want to think about it but in not too long the leaves will begin to turn and the morning air will begin to be a little cooler. Now is the time to think about that new 80 Meter antler you've been meaning to put up for a couple of years now. Make sure you've got all the bits and pieces you need now so you'll be ready for "low band season".
