I see that WA8REI has joined the Group, thanks vy much Ken. I've known
Ken for many years, going back to our early Polar Bear years. He is well
known in QRP circles, is a contester, musician, and FB cw op. He
attended OzarkCon 2015, and from all appearances had a great time, which
included some SOTA activations. I hear him all over the bands,
especially 20M, so give him a shout for a friendly QSO. Thanks to Chas,
Paul and Wayne for encouraging him to join Four State.

I have been waiting for cooler weather to tweak my dipole, and get outside and play with a few other antennas I've been thinking about.

Its been hot here all week during preparations for our RC model airshow.  Our club is known as the Ottumwa, Radio Control Flyers (OARC). It was a magnificient show with super aerobatic flying  and real high speed jets (large model size). There were pilots attending from Western and Northern Iowa, St Louis, Kansas, over 40 were registered but there were abt 50 flying, including club members. Many were world class and had won national and international RC aerobatic contests.  The show had a patriotic program with proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors Project. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/   The Saturday show brought several hundred observers out from town for a 4 hour Air Show.  One crowd pleaser was a  model parachute jumper.  "Charlie" was released at about 200' AGL and floated in a controlled descent to land in front of the crowd.  The festivities ended last night with a free steak dinner for all pilots.   This was our 3rd show and we are in it for the long haul. 

On Friday we hosted a 3 hour program at our local convention center with Commander Kirk Lipold presenting on the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen, in 2000.  It was an awesome presentation.  I can recommend his book, Front Burner, see it here http://www.kirklippold.com/  One eerie moment in the book is when Cmdr Lippold is addressing congressional members abt the bombing, Al Qaeda, and Bin Laden.  He was warning that they must be dealt with asap, or suffer major consequences.  This briefing took place on 9/11, 2001, just 2 HOURS before the twin towers were hit in NYC, an amazing coincidence to say the least.

I'm wondering if we (Four State) can hold a special event next year in conjunction with the WWP airshow, and make lots of contacts using the club call, and mentioning the WWP organization during the call. Afterwords we could each report the number of contacts made to me and I'll consolidate them into a report for our contact at the WWP.  I'm sure they would appreciate the exposure.  If we are successful, I'll write up an article for one of the major magazines.
