Re: PigRig Resistor Values

Just to add a bit of context, the format of an R value such as 4K7 is being adopted by many as a way of avoid the confusion sometimes caused by Americans using a "." as a decimal point and Europeans using "," for that purpose. So rather than use either, a K or M is used as a separator. It's also easier to read in case printing is faint or otherwise hard to read. A speck of black dust could be mistaken for a decimal point, or an easily-obliterated "." would also be problematic. It's not so easy for a capital K or M to be taken for something else, and since they refer to ancient Greek prefixes, they pose no language barriers.

Nothing new fangled about it. That is the way those designations have been done for years in the electronics businesses and hobbyist in Great Britain for many years.

Hi Lee,

It's just a newfangled notation. You already knew that K=1,000 and
M=1,000,000. They put the M or the K where the decimal point goes. If
it's smaller than 1K then they use an R (presumably for resistor). Can
you imagine how small a decimal point would be on today's tiny
resistors!

4M7 = 4.7 Mega Ohms or 4 Million 700 thousand ohms.
similarly, 4K7 is 4.7 Thousand  ohms and 5K6 is 5.6 Thousand ohms.

KN-Q7A QRP SSB Transceiver

Herb Graeber

Recently purchased a KN-Q7A QRP SSB transceiver and now realize that I have no interest in SSB. Rig has the 7.200 - 7.220 crystals installed and I also have the 7.145 - 7.165 crystals. See the QRVTronics and the China Qrp websites for more info. The rig has a VXO and covers approx 7.175 - 7.222 with the installed crystals. Mint condition and includes the speaker mike. 145.00 shipped. Please contact me off line. I'm good on QRZ. Thanks. 72...Herb K5HG

That's 3pm MST... and it is a "your speed" net.. so check in at the speed you'd like to chat at...
I may "push" just a bit.. but that is ok too... it seems to help folks get better.
And at the same time... while I am calling the net... I am logging... not happy with Winlog32 for this
use... does anyone have one that works better?? suggestions?? I'm sure I havn't tried them all.
But it needs to export so I can dump the log into win32... have an interface to use keying.. with winkey..
so I can call the net without using my finners... I call... and adjust radio/tuner/puter/chair.. in that order..
and if no one answers.. I call , and fix radios... (gotta keep busy)

So.. now you know.. and can come by, and say hi howdy.. so I don't burn my finners with a soldering iron...

I'd rather play with my paddle anyway.... so come by.. and let's chat.. k?

Have a great day,

Don't worry Jeremy just send your call out there.

I never did get Morse code and Terry always slows down for me. Both of our net controls are really good people and they will slow down for ya. Make sure you get checked in next week.

I am in Western OK and if the power line noise is not bad here to where I can hear Terry its not often that I don't work him and I am sure you would make the trip. You are pretty close to Wayne and would be interesting to see if you could make that trip as well.

LOL I honestly didn't bother tonite when I got into the PSK net. Haven't set up a digital interface for the 817 yet (going to use the 4S-Link from the Ozarkcon build session for that), so I just used the FT-920 at abt 25 watts out. With my poor 80m antenna, dunno if Dick would have even heard me if I cut it that low!
