Is the Brutus bash this next weekend or the following one? I thought it was the weekend of 18-20 Sept., but the website says 11-13.

I should be pulling in sometime Friday afternoon, assuming no major problems on the way home from Washington.  Do not know if I will be bringing the KX3 or not, depends on when I get back.  Am bringing about 30 brats from the meat market in Iola for Johnny to cook Saturday night.  See y'all there!

Jeremy, NQ0M/7 (at least for now).

Hi Terry,

Planning on getting down there Thursday evening, if weather looks promising.  Supposed
to be rainy here most of the first part of the week.  If its crummy yet, I may wait til Friday...

Not sure what I am going to bring along.  Might try to tailgate flea Mkt. a few items, but not sure which yet.
I have an IC-703+ that I might bring along, an Elecraft K2-10 with SSB, Audio filters, internal tuner.  Might bring a KX1 - 4 bands, with internal  tuner and paddles, or some other odds and ends.

I had to send my K3s in to have a thermal problem corrected and it will not be back home
in time to bring it along.  It supposed to show up sometime  Friday!   Gaaah!  Most likely
it would be late in the afternoon.
It would have been fun to see how well it could hear in a low noise area with a couple
of antennas running diversity RX.

I'm hoping to put in an appearance, sometime Saturday. If anyone (or knows anyone) who's interested I'll bring along my AL811 amp (2 tube 600 watt version) for sale or trade. I've tuned it up into a dummy load and it works as it should. One meter lamp is out. other than that it works as it should, it's been in the shack since I emigrated to the US in 2002, never had a reason to use it.
If you want me to bring it along let me know.

OT: For Sale, 1979 Vibroplex Original bug

Jim Sheldon

I'm putting my somewhat unusual 1979 Vibroplex original bug up for sale - offering it here before listing it on the auction sites.  This one isn't really rare but does have some things going for it.  It has the tan base rather than black or chrome.  These were available but very few were ordered on the "Original" version of the bugs.  Also, the serial number puts it in the first production run after Vibroplex moved from their Broadway St, NYC address to Portland, Maine.  The Portland factory started serial numbering their production with much lower numbers sometime after this one was made.  It still has the Broadway St. NYC label on it but Vibroplex's historical records indicate it was actually made in the Portland factory.

It's in good (not super) shape, showing normal wear and tear from use and the label has been re-glued.  It will come with an original Vibroplex carrying case that is all original except the leather carrying handle has been replaced (by me).  The old handle had gotten torn and was lost.  Carrying cases in this condition are getting hard to find.

Asking $150 shipped anywhere in the US for the package and high resolution pictures will be emailed on request.

Please reply off the reflector if you are interested in this key.

Re: Big Brutus draws near... Roll call?

Unless the weather is totally crappy that weekend, I plan on being there.  I'll most likely arrive Saturday morning around 9 or so and will either sleep in my SUV or a hotel in Pittsburg.

If I make it, I will have some really good 12 volt, 9 amp hour, tab terminal sealed lead acid batteries with me.  These will be offered for $10 each or 2 for $15 and all will be tested and fully charged.

I'm bringing my Elecraft KX3, PX3 and the KXPA100 amp along.  Yeah, yeah, this is a QRP outing but I'm also going to be running some antenna tests on a rapidly deployable portable/emergency 31' extendable, helically wound fiberglass pole/antenna.  Might need the 100 watt power level to keep some skeds and for 80/160 meter early morning tests.

The station will be available for anyone that doesn't own a KX3 or has never had the chance to operate one.  Not trying to sell them, just give people a chance to play with a really nice rig.

Hi all,
Hi Mike,

My SS-40HT is working great except for the tuning range is from 6983
to 7037 kHz.
You are the second builder to report that range. We currently don't know why the tuning range is lower than it should be. I've got a kit coming to check thing out. In the meantime, if you have a 470 pF NP0 capacitor, try putting that in series with the 5.6 uH L9 inductor and let me know how far that moves to lower end tuning. If you don't have that value, try any value you have from 220 pF to 470 pF.

Any ideas how I can shift the low end above 7000 kHz?

See above.
