Please excuse my skepticism, but is all this effort to re-grind, house and socket
crystals worth the time and bother??
Why not invest the same time and effort into building a DDFS board, that can

Re: An The Winners(s) Is - Free To A Good Home(s)
7140 kHz is a VERY valuable frequency for crystals!
It puts you on the AM Calling Frequency for 15m in most classic AM transmitters. 7140 X 3 = 21.420 MHz
See you there!

Thanks for the link Dennis, KC0IFQ. Rummaged through
some boxes and dug out my Palomar Engineers VLF
converter, listening to Dutch Harbor on 283 khz. Haven't
tuned through those frequencies in years

Re: FT243 crystal grinding.
When grinding crystals it is imperative both planes of the crystal stay parallel. If they don't, it will not oscillate. Beveling the edges help restore activity if the blank becomes sluggish.

I did use, either Bon-Ami or Ajax abrasive cleanser, mixing it with

Thanks for the QSO. I play with QRPp also and will change to
the QRPp rig soon, a MFJ-9040 with a variable Voltage power supply. It will go
from about 7 Watts down to 25 mW or less.

Hello,
This is slightly off what is being discussed. In the Ameco AC-1 clone partial
kit I am using, the designer intended for the user to use either a 1/4 inch
key jack - or plug the key into half
