First, haven't been able to get on much on the Wed. nets due to having choir practice at my church, and last Sunday night we had our Christmas concert, no SSS, and bad weather as well. Hope to be back

I AM (was until July 1, 2015 when I retired) a doctor and agree with your "prescriptions".
Put up a simple dipole for 40 meters, feed it with open feeders or 450 ohm twin lead and a tuner.

Well, there wasn't a lot of participation in the SSS again last night. Conditions were not good, at least for me. I barely heard KV6Z calling and gave him a shout, but if he replied I couldn't hear

Lots of QRN on the bands tonight. I heard KV6Z calling on 7.122, but just barely. I returned his call but didn't hear anything. I'll try a little later. We're having lots of rain at the present

They were cut off right under the head. It will be about 2" long and will be the right length. It's not critical at all.
