I don't know if WA8REI (Ken) has joined the 4sqrp Yahoo group, the group moderators would have to answer that.

It was said Ken attended OzarkCon 2015, which automatically adds a person to the 4sqrp "Operator/Member" list, but does not mean that person has joined the Yahoo group.

I did a search of the 4sqrp Yahoo group for "WA8REI" and "Ken". Found no listings for WA8REI, and the only Ken found was Nick *_Ken_*nedy.

So if you're wanting him to join the yahoo group, you may want to continue your invitations........... but I could be wrong.

"Brutus Bash" is our fall field outing, get together, at the Big Brutus Historical site at West mineral Kansas.
We camp out, eat, visit and play radio for a full weekend!
It's held on September 11, 12& 13th.
It's a very big old Coal Mining shovel that has turned into a historic site.
Located about 15 miles or so west of Pittsburgh Kansas, then a few miles to the south.
I think Mr. Bart Lawson is one of the founders, and Joe Porter may have been involved as well.
Look it up on google, pack up a tent and come on down, it's a lot of fun!!
Hope this description does it justice!!

Re: Winding BalUns

Phil Anderson

Wayne,

I've been experimenting with winding my own summers and splitters. I see no problem with using solid wire, as long as the size of the wire and insulation is small enough for the no. of turns you are putting on your cores. I've been making my own Beverage antenna transformers. They call for 450 to 50 ohms. With that the trifilar wound cores work great for broad-band transformers. I use three different colors of coated wire & FT82-61 cores so I don't have to ohm them out once wound. To keep thinks tight and provide for some capacitance, I use a drill and twist the three colors together, then wind them on the core. Works slick. I could send you some pictures if you like. The trifilars are sometimes called transmission line transformers.

We've been out of town a good bit this summer - mostly visiting in Oklahoma with grandkids, etc. Hope to get back on the net more regularly! Bands ought to be getting better as we get deeper into the fall. I've also started checking into the CWT (CWOPS) one hour contests each Wednesday to try to improve my code speed. It's beginning to help.

GA All,

Its been hot here all week during preparations for our RC model airshow.  Our club is known as the Ottumwa, Radio Control Flyers (OARC). It was a magnificient show with super aerobatic flying  and real high speed jets (large model size). There were pilots attending from Western and Northern Iowa, St Louis, Kansas, over 40 were registered but there were abt 50 flying, including club members. Many were world class and had won national and international RC aerobatic contests.  The show had a patriotic program with proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors Project. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/   The Saturday show brought several hundred observers out from town for a 4 hour Air Show.  One crowd pleaser was a  model parachute jumper.  "Charlie" was released at about 200' AGL and floated in a controlled descent to land in front of the crowd.  The festivities ended last night with a free steak dinner for all pilots.   This was our 3rd show and we are in it for the long haul.

On Friday we hosted a 3 hour program at our local convention center with Commander Kirk Lipold presenting on the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen, in 2000.  It was an awesome presentation.  I can recommend his book, Front Burner, see it here http://www.kirklippold.com/  One eerie moment in the book is when Cmdr Lippold is addressing congressional members abt the bombing, Al Qaeda, and Bin Laden.  He was warning that they must be dealt with asap, or suffer major consequences.  This briefing took place on 9/11, 2001, just 2 HOURS before the twin towers were hit in NYC, an amazing coincidence to say the least.

I'm wondering if we (Four State) can hold a special event next year in conjunction with the WWP airshow, and make lots of contacts using the club call, and mentioning the WWP organization during the call. Afterwords we could each report the number of contacts made to me and I'll consolidate them into a report for our contact at the WWP.  I'm sure they would appreciate the exposure.  If we are successful, I'll write up an article for one of the major magazines.

Watcha think?

I think that sounds like a grand idea. Might get my non-ham buddy from Indy to come over and go to IA and see ya. He flies and has heli's and a bigger quad now too.

I am tickled to see some traffic.
My 80 meter wire is a bent inverted V at 50 ft. I am always ready for cooler wx and winter coming for working 80 meters.

You are right.

I have been waiting for cooler weather to tweak my dipole, and get outside and play with a few other antennas I've been thinking about.
