Subscribing to the conventional "thinking" that more wire in the air is mo betta, Joe, I employ End Fed Half Wave antennas.
I use a Jacktite 31' collapsible mast to erect EFHWs for the bands needed

Like Larry, W2LJ I use the PAR EndFEDZ 40, 20, 10 but the Buddistick was a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay so I built a take apart vertical using some thick wall aircraft hydraulic tubing

When I am near the car, I use a Buddistick on a magmount on the roof of my Jeep.
Away from the car, either a PAR ENDFEDZ 40/20/10 or a NorCal Doublet

My all time favorite portable antenna is a 3/8 WL wire at the lowest band, hooked to a tuner and 1/4 WL radial laying on the ground. It keeps the max radiation a quarter WL from the far end and ground

Yep it loads up fine but I have yet to actually use it; my dummy load loads up great as well so we will see... can't be any worse than the random wire antenna...

Super Antenna with enhancements, longer base and longer top whip section
This one always does a good job 20 meters up and OK on 40. I've also used it as a mobile antenna on 40 SSB

Hi Scotty,
You better make yourself an opportunity to check out that backup for the backup antenna. One of my daughters married Murphy and if you don't check it out then the Murph will get you when

Buddipole with or without military whips and 12 foot mast works great. Very portable and easy to set up. I use it mostly in a vertical configuration with counterpoise wire.
I also carry a long wire

Portable Antenna Survey
I'd like to hear from "Portable QRP'ers" on the subject of Antennas used out in the field.

2. What Antenna works best for you?
3. Dimensions of that Antenna?

We often know so little about the folks we work on the air and meet on websites.
Some of my local ham friends were truly amazing folks.
It is nice when someone remembers a lost friend as you
