Yes, I caught two crickets tonight. I definitely was QRO - 5 watts compared to their 700 mW. The chirp was loud into east-central KS, despite the QRN.

Good points you make. I wonder if anyone has thought of re-designing the old Heathkit HW-7 or HW-8? They were hugely popular back in the day, simple, cw only and built like a brick

I heard you on my Cricket Terry, but I don't have a really good antenna
on 80. I'm forced to use my 40-20-10 PAR EndFedZ as a 1/4 wave on 80.
I can tune it to a low SWR and the Cricket hears ok, but
