I have built the 4SQRP Group antenna tuner and really thinkit is a fantastic kit and easy to build with the provided instructions. Itseems to work quite well and I have tested it against other antenna

Good thought -- I did not consider the possibility of no LO reaching the SA612 IC -- in that case a mixer becomes a resistor, and perhaps only an AM receiver.

If I remember right you need the jumpers in the xtal position unless you are using an external VFO.
